Wednesday - Leap Day!

I won't be able to write another blog on this date for four more years so I better make it a good one!

I just came home from St. Joe's, had soup and sandwiches with Howard again tonight.  I used to leave there before five so I'd get back to the house before dark but now I can stay longer.  It's just getting dark now at seven.  This way I avoid the heavier traffic too when people are heading home from work.

The last Wednesday of the month is usually the monthly birthday party at St. Joseph's with birthday cake and coffee followed by entertainment.  Today the Torquay Grannies provided the entertainment.  Vickie didn't join us as she's been coughing and sneezing and didn't want to spread that to the residents.  So we went with "the original three".  Phyllis, Vi and I started singing trios over forty years ago when we each had toddlers the same age - Donnie, Veronica and Clare.  If we'd have kept singing all through those years, we'd wouldn't need the words in front of us when we sing!  But our lives got busier as the children grew. It was great to have Vickie join us a few short years ago.  Now that we are Grandmas, we enjoy getting together again, but still not as often as we should.  We now have 33 grandchildren among the four of us, ranging in age from 17 years to a newborn.  We can't sing many songs before our voices get "croaky" so we alternate the singing with music.  Vi played some lively old tunes on the piano and I played a few tunes on the accordion. We ended with a sing-song of old favorites.  There were two guests of honor today - Ida and Wayne both had birthdays in February.

There was a story on TV this morning about a couple in Australia who were both born on February 29th.  Today was their twentieth birthday, but they were eighty years old!

I went quilting in Torquay on Monday and here in Estevan on Tuesday.  Susie had called the quilters at Trinity, Estevan and suggested that they share some quilt tops with our Torquay group.  What a thoughtful idea!  I came back with a box of lovely tops for us to work on.  We have a good group out to help tie on Mondays, but not many to sew tops at home.  This year we didn't have a supply on hand to start with so it keeps us hopping (or should I say, sewing!) to get enough tops sewn during the week to keep us busy on Mondays.  Thanks to the Estevan ladies, we'll be kept busy until our last sewing day in March.  Our quilts are all made for the same purposes - some are sent to Lutheran World Relief, some to the local nursing homes and hospital, and some to people facing a disaster such as a fire or flood.  Our labours of love are expressions of the love that we have received and a way of passing on that love to others in need of comfort. "As you have done it unto the least of these, you have done it unto Me".

I'm planning to go to the farm tomorrow and also to Ambrose for the mail.  I'll stay overnight as we have a music meeting with Pastor Krauss at 10:00 on Friday morning.  If the weather and roads are good, I'll carry on to Milestone as Ashley will be four years old that day.  I promised her that I would  pick up a DQ cake in Weyburn on my way through.  She wants one with flowers on it.

So I'll close for now.  We'll see in the morning if March comes in like a lion or a lamb!
