ASH WEDNESDAY

We need  to do this, even when life is going great!

The Tuesday before the beginning of Lent is known as Shrove Tuesday and is typically a pancake day.  In keeping with that tradition, the youth of Trinity, Estevan (along with help from several men in the kitchen) served a delicious pancake and sausage supper yesterday.  I enjoyed taking that in after visiting Howard in the afternoon and watching curling from the Tournament of Hearts in Red Deer.

On Monday I drove out to Torquay for our weekly quilting day at Trinity.  It was a lively, fun day as Mary had her four girls along since there is a school break this week following Family Day last Monday.  I brought two tops this week, both made with denim squares alternating with cotton prints.  No pictures taken though!   This week I'm tackling four inch fortrel squares and I definitely will take a picture of that top when it's done!  It's a good project to work on while the curling games are on, three draws each day.  The evening one gets late and I went to bed last night before the game was over.  Susie had made tops with fortrel squares and I liked the way she did it, alternating plain and figured blocks with no planned colour scheme.  So I sit and pin rows of 23 blocks together.  When I get tired of pinning, I move to the sewing machine and sew the blocks into rows.  I'll need 17 of those.  The machine is close to the TV so I can keep track of the game while I work.  Now if I was a real avid and knowledgeable curling fan, I wouldn't take my eyes off the TV screen and sewing at the same time would be a No No.  But I'm content just to watch part time.  Highlights are always there for a great shot that I might have missed.

My sister is enjoying some of the games live in Red Deer.  Both her daughters live in Lacombe so it's not far for them to drive to the arena.  I haven't seen them on TV yet, but I might have missed a view of the spectators while I'm sewing or pinning.  Sorry, girls!

The spring on the garage door "sprung" last week so I've been keeping the Escape outside.  Yesterday i got fixed so I appreciate not having to scrape the windows before I go driving.  This morning I took my vehicle to Long Creek Motors for an oil change.  Thanks for the great service, Richard! It beats taking it to one of these "fast oil change" places, even if I had to make an appointment.  This garage is  where I bought the Escape, the first sale for a salesman who was new on the job.  He said business is slow these days.

I have never been one to name my vehicle but maybe I should start, instead of always referring to "the Escape".  Any suggestions?  Maybe "Leaping Lena" or Lena for short!

I stopped at the CAA office this afternoon and had my passport picture taken.  My passport is good until October but they recommend having one that has more then a few months left if you plan to travel overseas.  I haven't even looked at the picture.  Without my glasses and my smile, it likely looks rather grim!

I didn't drive out to Torquay for the Ash Wednesday service tonight.  I'm not fond of driving after dark anymore and highway 18 is so much busier than it used to be.  All the oil activity in the area means there are big trucks on the road all hours of the day and night.

I'm heading downstairs to do some more sewing and pinning and a bit of TV watching.  See you later.

Laurel and Greg got a new iphone so here's the first picture sent from it, Ashley at the hotel pool in Regina, where they spent for Family Day.
