Birthdays and Snow! (revised edition)

Two birthday kids at the Leisure Centre
Kirk opening up the driveway for me.

There was a winter storm warning this past weekend so I didn't go far, stayed in all day Saturday.  When I went to back out of the garage this afternoon to meet Kirk's at St. Joe's,  I took a look at the driveway and decided it wouldn't be a good idea to try to back through a snow bank, even with 4 wheel drive.  Kirk's were in town for many reasons, but I don't think cleaning my driveway was on that list!  Jamie was at a birthday party at the bowling alley and Lindsay was having a joint birthday party, along with friend Lucas, at the Leisure Centre.  They brought cupcakes to St. Joe's so Grandpa and Aunt Viola got in on the Lindsay's eighth birthday too. Then Kirk brought Lindsay and Carter to the pool and came over to help his stranded mother.  He didn't have to shovel as there is a snow blower in the garage.  He soon figured out how to run that and was back at the birthday party in time to help serve lunch to a table full of birthday guests.  He missed out on the swimming though.  A soak in the hot tub would have felt pretty good after running that snowblower!  We'll have to have another swim party to make up for missing this one.  Maybe we can work something out when Todd is home next month.

Robert and Pauline Grimsrud's house is in the background.  There aren't many years when you can put new siding on a house in February but that's what's happening next door this winter!

Edith's 94th birthday
Today is also cousin Edith Vinge's birthday.  Some of her nieces had a little party for her yesterday.  Edith almost missed the party as she was so tired!  I tried to copy some of Elaine Akre's comments from her email, but this blog refused to print it or any of the pictures that followed!

This is about half of the blog I had ready to post.  I'm not sure where the rest of it went but I'm going to quit and go to bed!  I had several pictures to add.  They were rejected by the server!  I'll try again tomorrow and see if things go better.  Good night all.

Problem solved so I'm continuing my Sunday blog on Monday evening.

I was gone all day, didn't even turn on the computer until 7:30 this evening, something of a record for me.  Flylady suggested once that you exercise first before going on the computer and I've been doing that - 30 minutes on the treadmill first thing in the morning.  This morning I was busy getting ready for quilting, pressed the quilt top with 414 four inch squares, made a salad and finished pinning another top.  This one has only 63 squares (9 inch) so won't take long, compared to the last one!  Here's a picture of most of it.  Today we tied it.
The quilt of many pieces!
We got a new phone for Howard, one that he just has to push the picture of the person he wants to call and the number will dial.  But even that isn't working for him.  He hasn't called me yet!  When I visit him we usually do some calling and that's the best that we can do now.  He doesn't spend a lot of time in his room so it's hard for anyone to call him.  This one is not a speaker phone but it has an amplifier so he can hear very well on it.  Here's a picture of him that I took the other day.

Visiting on the phone (without his cap on!)
Tomorrow Verna and I are planning to go quilting again, this time at Trinity, Estevan.  They quilt Monday and Tuesday this week so we will join them tomorrow.  I think this is their last quilting session for this winter.  It will be a busy week as on Wednesday our "Torquay Grannies" are singing at the monthly birthday party at St. Joseph's Care Home at 3:30.   On Thursday there's a Bible study at Trinity, Torquay and a meeting on Friday morning to choose hymns for the next months.  I'm planning to spend Thursday night at the farm and go to Ambrose for mail on Friday morning before the meeting.  Friday is also Ashley's fourth birthday.

Well, I better close for now.  Have a great week and enjoy the extra day this month!
