Sunday, Fun Days

Ready to party!

Two girls in black!
Anytime we spend time with grandkids, it's sure to be a fun time.  There were many fun times on the weekend.  I had planned to take the bus to Weyburn on Friday afternoon as the forecast was a bit "iffy" for this fair weather driver.  After visiting Howard in the morning and having lunch at the cafeteria, I went to the bus depot, bought my ticket, tagged my luggage and waited for the 2:20 bus to Regina.  The bus drove up about 2:15 and was busy unloading freight.  I took my suitcase out and headed for the door of the bus, only to be told by the driver "I won't be back until 5:30".  I'd had a feeling things weren't going to go right as the STC website didn't list a bus leaving Estevan on Friday afternoons.  But when I phoned the Estevan bus depot on Thursday, and again on Friday morning, I was assured that there was a 2:20 bus on Friday.  Well, the website was right.  The girl at the desk was new on the job and needed to take a second look at the schedule!  If I waited for the 5:30 bus I'd miss Eric's hockey game in Yellow Grass so I decided that I'd drive after all.

The weather was good in Estevan and the possible snowfall hadn't materialized so off I went, after making a phone call to Clare telling him not to meet the bus at 3:30.  Highway 39 was in good shape and soon I was at the DQ in Weyburn picking up the promised birthday cake for Ashley.  It didn't have a red flower but the yellow and purple flowered one seemed perfect for her.  Clare was planning to take in Eric's game so I rode with him and left the Escape at his place.

This was the first game for this tier 1 team, the Wheat Kings who were playing a Weyburn team, also having their first game as a new team.  It was a great game with lots of fans out to cheer them on.  After two periods, the game was tied at one.  But just into the third period Eric shot one in from a ways out, putting his team ahead 2-1.  That ended up being the winning goal.  Eric scored one more, another  team member added one and the final score was 4-1.

I got in with the Diekragers and soon we were at the farm having a birthday supper and cake with Ashley.  Laurel had the table set and supper was ready in a jiffy, thanks to the crockpot.

An excited birthday girl

We slept in on Saturday morning, then Greg, Laurel and Eric were off to a hockey game in Balgonie.  Grandma stayed home with Dawson and Ashley.  We had a relaxing afternoon.

Saturday evening was a special event for Eric, three of his friends and their four dads.  Here they are on their way to the Regina Pats vs Brandon Wheat Kings game in Regina.
What could be better than Powerade in wine glasses in a limo on your way to a hockey game with your Dads ??

What made it even better was the game itself.  Brandon was ahead 4-0 after two periods.  I was thinking that they would be disappointed with such a lop sided game.  But that all changed in the third period when the Pats scored six unanswered goals and won 6-4.  It was a game not to be missed!

I got to see Dawson play a game in Milestone on Sunday.  He and his team worked hard but came up two goals short in a 7-5 game against a Weyburn team.  Then Greg and the boys drove me back to Weyburn and I headed for Estevan, a sunny afternoon drive.

When I got to Saint Joseph's I found Howard in the cafeteria along with Kirk, Carter , Lindsay and Jamie.  The kids enjoy having a snack there and toast with peanut butter or jam is a favourite.  Here they are as waiters and waitresses bringing the toast to their table.

Hamming it up!
I can do this too! (with a little help from Dad on the side)
So I got to see all seven grandchildren this weekend .  I didn't get a picture of Abbey so that was too bad.  I think she is playing the piano at the music festival this week but I doubt if I'll get there to hear her.  Good luck, Abbey!

As you see, it was a very full weekend.  The only negative was that Laurel got the stomach flu on Saturday night.  It took its time but made the rounds of the whole family.  I'm hoping I don't catch it now!  Time will tell.

Have a great week.  March came in like a lion here with snow and blowing snow on Thursday.  Will it go out like a lamb?  We'll have to wait and see.

I plan to go quilting in Torquay tomorrow, but I might be in trouble there!  I was down for serving lunch after the service today and didn't show up.  I tried to call a couple friends to let them know I wouldn't be there but I'm not sure if either one got my message.  I'll find out tomorrow!
