Johnson Family Christmas

Our family gathered on Wednesday, Dec. 22nd as Clare's planned to fly from Bismarck to Phoenix on Dec.23rd.  It worked well to do an early Christmas.  Everyone arrived in time for a turkey supper with the girls all bringing part of the meal. The best part was that the Dr. granted Howard leave to spend Christmas at home. Our plans now are to take in the Christmas Day service in Torquay and continue on to Milestone to spend the rest of the day and evening with Laurel, Greg and the kids.  I'll take Howard back to Tatagwa on Sunday afternoon.  Hopefully, he won't have to stay much longer.

Here we are in the basement watching a video of Christmas 2001 that Kirk brought.  We were missing Todd and Kristy but in the video Todd read the Christmas story and that was our reading for last night.  We sang along on the carols as they were sung that year too.  That was Dawson and Abbey's first Christmas and Carter was soon to be born so a very special year, but isn't every year special?
We took our traditional picture of the kids in front of the fireplace, a very informal one with some still in pyjamas this morning.

Clare's left about nine thirty this morning after our pancake and sausage breakfast.  They sent a text from Bismarck just before boarding their plane this evening at 6:30.
Laurel had made sugar cookies and Grandma made cupcakes so the grandkids helped decorate them this morning.  Later in the afternoon we had birthday cupcakes and ice cream for Carter who will turn nine on the 26th.  More about him on Sunday's blog.

Here's a picture of Grandpa enjoying his morning coffee and getting ready to try the pipe that Clare brought for him from John Porter.

In the afternoon, Shauna, Laurel and I made a quick trip to Ambrose for the mail and then to Crosby for groceries and a stop at our favorite store, J Company Drugs.  We always find something tempting us there!

Several inches of fluffy white snow was ideal for games of Fox and Goose.  Kirk was out playing with the kids last night and today it was Greg's turn.  I missed getting pictures of that activity.

Tonight we are back to two so it is quiet, except for the radio playing carols in the background.  There were many Christmas greetings in the mail at Torquay as well as at Ambrose so we'll be busy going through those this evening and tomorrow. On Christmas Eve we'll have lutefisk and lefse and take in some special programs on TV.  I see the the PBS station from Seattle even has a broadcast from a church in Hamar, Norway to be shown on Christmas Day.

We are thankful to be home together this Christmas.  Thank you for your prayers and expressions of concern.  A blessed Christmas to each one of you.
