HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAVIN!

Gavin Conrad turns 35 on Christmas Day, one of those blessed to share the birthday of Jesus.  He has been part of the Erickson family since he and our niece, Mareena Sanford, were married on October 11, 1997.  Gavin and Mareena didn't go on a honeymoon at that time so in 2005 he planned a trip to Norway for the two of them.  Todd and Kristy were living in Kristiansund, on the west coast of Norway, so they helped Gavin make travel plans.  The four of them did some traveling together and had a very special time staying in cabins beside a waterfall near Garanger, a major tourist attraction.

17th of May in Kristiansund, Norway, 2005
Gavin and Mareena arrived in Norway a week or so before our first visit there.  We went on a bus tour when we arrived in Oslo and made our way to Bergen in the nine day trip.  When the tour ended, we left the hotel in Bergen and made our way to the dock where we met Gavin and Mareena, Todd and Kristy.  What a thrill that was!  Then we made our way to the island of Bomlo via hydrofoil boat.  A maxi taxi met us and took us to visit three of my mother's first cousins.  It was so special to be greeted by Elise, who soon had her table laden with food for her guests from Canada.  Gavin and Mareena left a couple days later to do some exploring on their own and were soon flying back to Canada where they were eagerly greeted by daughter Megan and son Rylan.  Those two had spent a great time at Grandma and Grandpa Sanford's farm.  Since then Nola has joined the family.

Gavin works away from their lovely new home at Lacombe, often spending time in Fox Creek.  He keeps in close touch with his family via his laptop and Skype.  He even bowls with the kids using their Wii and Skype!  Here's a picture of a fall goose hunt with son Rylan standing proudly beside his dad.

Have a Happy Birthay, Gavin and a Merry Christmas as you celebrate with the Sanford and Conrad families in Frontier and Shaunavon!
