The song by "High Valley" goes with the end of this post but ended up before it. You'll see how it fits in once you've read "Two More Sleeps".
I did venture out to service this morning even with the wind blowing and windchill warnings out. The yard was fine and so were the roads. It was blowing so hard that no snow collected on the roads! The sun was shining brightly and there were sundogs on either side of it, a sign that it was indeed cold. Despite the weather, there were 33 out for morning worship at Trinity, several from Estevan as the Praise Band from Faith took part in our service. When they come out we always have a potluck lunch after with good fellowship. It's amazing how those unplanned meals turn out. We had several hotdishes, homemade bread and buns, devilled eggs, egg sandwiches, pickles, and of course several yummy desserts. The only thing missing was salad, and I didn't hear any complaints about that!
A crew of volunteers has been busy installing insulation and gyprock on some of the cinderblock walls. We have a new furnace but a lot of heat is lost without good insulated walls. This should help a lot. It's great to have many willing hands to help with this project. Next comes painting and then the new flooring can be laid in the hallway and entry.
There are over twenty children who take part in Kids Club on Mondays after school. On Tuesdays the auditorium becomes a "quilt factory". It's a fun day with morning and afternoon coffee breaks and a potluck lunch at noon. Neither group is restricted to Lutherans and new members are welcome anytime. If you can tie a knot, we have a job for you. And if you can't, someone will be glad to teach you so no excuses! It's a good way to pass a cold winter day and we are providing someone with a warm quilt at the same time. It's also a good way to meet new people or get better acquainted with those you already know. It's a "warm family feeling".
My suitcases are soon ready to go. Actually, I'm going to borrow one from Laurel as my big suitcase has had it with travelling after our last trip to Norway. One of the wheels broke off so it was a challenge to drag it around after that. It is now retired and a new one ordered from Choice Rewards. It won't be here in time for this trip but I'll be all ready to take another trip when it comes!
I was polishing my sandals last night so thought of Howard and my dad, Milford Erickson, as I was doing that job. One year for Christmas the Erickson family decided to make gifts. Dad made Howard a shoe shine kit and it's still in use. It was a perfect gift for Howard as shiny shoes were a priority with him. He took barber training and shoe shining seems to go along with that. I found a can of tan polish that was just right for my sandals so Howard is still making sure my shoes are shined!
When the kids came home they would often find their shoes or boots nicely polished when they went to leave. That kind of went along with checking the oil or filling the gas tanks. I want to add a video by "High Valley"singing the song "A Father's Love". It reminds our four of their dad and one of the ways that he expressed his love so I'll share it with you. It ended up on its own post so you'll have to go to the next one to hear it.
Kirk's have a long drive ahead of them as they are on the way home from Carter's hockey tournament in Fargo, ND. There were three divisions in the peewee draw and Lampman Imperials were in the 2B grouping. They won their first two games, then lost the third by one goal! This afternoon they played for third place and won so did very well for a small town team. Well done, Lampman!
Next Wednesday's post should be from Arizona!! See you then.
