KRISTIANSUND - SECOND EDITION

A new outfit for the new Canadian
(the baby will not be a Norwegian even if born in Norway)

"The Day That You Were Born"

Hand made cards from Drew, Ty, Rylan and Nola
On Sunday evening we had a mini baby shower for Kristy and Todd.  Several family members sent gifts for the new baby so we had fun presenting them.  I wanted to give this eighth grandchild a special gift so decided to give him/her the Mother Goose quilt that Sandra made for my 60th birthday.  I asked her permission and she was glad to have a part in this gift for the new baby. I had the quilt hanging on the wall in our living-room for ten years, so now it was time to let this new grandchild use it.  The embroidered blocks were bought in a second hand store in Outlook by Howard's cousin, Edith Vinge.  Several books were among the gifts.  One was a book called Hockey Opposites, My First NHL Book. " The puck is out of the net.  The puck is in the net."

On Monday morning Sandra and I ventured out on a little shopping trip in the city. We only made it to two shops, both second hand stores, our favourite places!  I had visited them on previous trips here.  The first one is very small and jam packed full of all sorts of goodies.  The owner is an older fellow who lives above his shop.  If his shop is closed, he said to call him, day or night and he'd come down and open up his shop.  I guess we are good customers! We found several cute Candy figurines that are made in Norway, pendants made in Kristiansund, a painting of a sailboat and other interesting items for a good price.  He even had a seal skin for sale.

The other second hand store is run by several older ladies.  It is much larger and everything is neatly arranged.  Sandra found three pieces of pewter and a cute Norsk dress with black skirt and red vest top with lacing and braid trim that one of her granddaughters can wear at 17th of May celebrations.  I found a long blue wall hanging that I might use for a runner instead as it just had one hanger instead of the usual two for the top and for the bottom.

After supper we had a visit from Todd and Kristy's "family" who live in Kristiansund.  Rolf is from Norway, Ruth is from Australia so she also knows what it is like to live far away from her homeland.  It was fun to visit with their three children and to hear them speaking Norsk.  They are learning English and do well at that too.  Ruth's parents are arriving for a three week visit this week so they were very excited about that.  This will be the first time that Morfar (mother's father) will meet Emmanual who is two and a half years old.

This picture says it all, no Norsk or English needed!

I will end this blog and tell you about our trip to a cottage in the mountains next time.  It is Saturday morning and time to get ready for a shopping trip to the mall!  I don't want to be left behind.
