A SUMMER COLD

Salem in the "Land of Living Skies"
thanks, Clare for taking this picture today

I didn't have a cold all winter but now that nice warm weather is here, I've been smitten - coughing, a runny nose and a ticklish throat.  I had a good sleep last night and do feel better today but am still taking it easy.  This post might be very short!

Today was track and field day at Milestone School.  Eric shines in that area so it was one of his favourite school days, with no science to worry about!  It was sunny, warm and windy so that kept the mosquitoes away and made the day more bearable than if it had been calm.  Ashley enjoyed playing with friends at the playground.  She is excited about going to Kindergarten in the fall.

This evening Jodi and Clare hosted a graduation supper for their niece, Charlotte Kot of Regina.  With the large class enrolments, she was only allowed four guests for her graduation banquet and exercises tomorrow.  This was a neat way of including Grandma Gaby, Jodi, Clare and Abbey in her big day.  Charlotte wore her grad dress and the guests were "dressing up" for the meal.  I thought this was such a good way to include more of the family, especially her grandma Kot, in the graduation festivities.  Charlotte is graduating from grade twelve, but is already taking classes at the U of R as well.  Her skills in basketball enabled her to be part of the university team before she graduated from high school.  Jodi bought grad gifts with the Dr. Seuss theme from his book "The Places You'll Go".  Watch this young lady go places, basketball in hand.  Congratulations, Charlotte!

Cosy cousins, Abbey and Charlotte

I can't have a post without talking about the weather forecast!  We are under a watch tonight for severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.  I think I'll sleep in the basement!   I'll update the situation in the morning.

  1. Sorry to hear you are not feeling well! Summer colds are not fun. I was wondering about the picture of Salem. Is that where you live? The name "Land of Living Skies" really fits. The sky is so vast and beautiful. I am surrounded by trees in my neighbourhood and rarely see a good view of the sky, but lots of green.

  2. Yes, the country church is just two miles north of the Johnson farm. We still have a worship service there every summer. "Land of Living Skies" is actually the motto on Saskatchewan license plates. We take these views for granted so it takes someone surrounded by trees to appreciate these ever changing scenes. Thanks for your comment!
