Sunday Evening Mar.11

New dress and hat from Hawaii

Monday morning update: pictures are added, thanks to Laurel.

It's been a busy weekend, but now it's too quiet, time to work on my blog.  After watching curling most of the week, I can't seem to get interested in tonight's final between Alberta and Ontario.  I was up visiting Howard and planned to watch some of the game with him.  But he was tired and not interested in the game.  I watched the first two ends with Aunt Viola and then came home.  I laid out another quilt top on the floor but that's as far as it went.

I was busy on Saturday morning - made a batch of ginger cookies and a batch of buns.  Laurel's came here for lunch after Eric's first game of a two day tournament.  Then we all went to the rink to see his second game in this tier one competition.  The Wheat Kings were defeated soundly in both games, didn't score a goal in either one!   I didn't actually see the last part of the afternoon game as Ashley was tired of sitting behind the glass watching hockey.  We went to the library and she had a great time playing with the little brother of one of the boys on Eric's team.  They had never met before but were soon busy playing house.  He cooked breakfast, she loved the eggs!  After a "sleep" on the bean bag chairs, it was time to shower and brush their teeth.  It was much more entertaining than a lopsided hockey game!

Most of the team went to Boston Pizza for supper.  They had to wait a long time for their food as it was a very busy place. After supper, Laurel and Ashley went to St. Joe's to visit Grandpa and Aunt Viola.  Ashley got a flowery dress from her Auntie Danita when they came back from Hawaii so she wore it both days.  She loves dresses.  It's not often one can wear such a dress outside on March 11 without a coat to cover it up.  But today Ashley was outside by the hospital in her sundress busy picking rocks by the sidewalk. We took Howard outside in his wheelchair so he could enjoy some of this plus 14 degree  weather.  Laurel took several pictures so I'll add some when she has time to forward her shots from the weekend.

A "spring" day in  Estevan, March 11, 2012
Eric with his new sticks from Sport Chek

There wasn't time this morning to go to church in Torquay at 10:30 and be back in time to watch Eric's game at 11:30 so we went to Faith Lutheran instead as it meets at the Nicholson Centre, right beside the rink.  Ashley was brave and even went on her own to Sunday School with the kids.  Laurel slipped out right after the sermon, just in time to see Eric score a goal in Estevan's new skating rink, Spectra Place.  The team really turned their game around today and won 6-2 against a Regina team.  Eric scored three of the six goals so had a "hat trick" and was the MVP of the game for their team. Their shots on goal totalled 45!  There is one girl on their team.  Sidney helped her grandma Pedersen make a birthday cake for Eric and the team was treated to cake after their victory.  The only downside for Eric was that he broke his hockey stick before the game.  Fortunately for him, a fellow hockey player came with an extra stick so Eric was able to play.  After the game, he and Laurel went to Sport Chek and he came back with two sticks.  Now he has a spare one too.  Good thing he had some birthday money to put towards his sticks!

Shots on goal for Wheat Kings - 45!

Eric never did get a DQ cake.  Laurel brought chocolate cake that was left from his Thursday party so we enjoyed that with ice cream on Sat.  Then they had the birthday cake today after their game.  He'll have to have a rain check on the DQ one.  Or maybe we'll have one big one when Todd comes home and celebrate all the recent birthdays together.

Greg and Dawson left for Milestone shortly after breakfast this morning.  It was a good day for Dawson too as they won their hockey game 3 -2.  So they will move on in their league playoffs.

I got just one quilt top sewn this week, one with 12 inch squares so that didn't take long to put together. Tomorrow I'm planning to go to quilting at Torquay, then spend the night at the farm as I haven't been there for a few weeks.  I need to pick up some things before Todd arrives.  He'll just be here for five days so that time will fly by all too quickly.  He shouldn't have to contend with any flooded roads and bridges on this trip, unlike last year.

Well, I'm going to have an early bedtime tonight so will sign off for now and add pictures tomorrow.
