After a busy weekend that extended into Monday, I'm having a quiet day at home. It was quite cool in the house this morning, a good time to bake a batch of flatbread. That's done, and now there's a load of bedding in the washer. Time to put flannels back on the beds! There's a frost warning for tonight and tomorrow so I'll pick in any ripe tomatoes and cover the rest.
Saturday was a fun day with a visit from Kirk, Carter, Lindsay and Jamie. Shauna enjoyed a shopping trip to Minot with a good friend. Carter got dropped off "over east" so he could ride along with Clare in the tractor as he did some disking on the weed growth over there. They came home in the afternoon and Clare and Kirk were busy cleaning out the furnace room in preparation for the installation of a new furnace on Thursday. The biggest item to get hauled out was an old hot water tank that was just taking up space, having been replaced by a new one. With the help of a dolly they got it up the stairs, out the door and off to the dump in the bucket of the farmhand
Carter was busy cutting grass with the ride on mower. The girls worked on some bead projects and we also "played house". We worked in some actual decorating for the fall season. I keep a box of "stuff" for each season so we got out the one marked "Fall" and found places for most of it.
After supper on the deck, everyone left for home. In the morning I drove to Estevan, picked up Howard and we went back to Torquay for the worship service at 10:30. Next Sunday the service will be at 9:00 and will be led by Pastor Bob from Faith Lutheran, Estevan.
We came home, had lunch and a rest. Then we watched another exciting Rider game as they defeated Winnipeg in the Banjo Bowl. Howard hadn't seen the Cypress pictures so we watched those on the computer and he enjoyed seeing the slide shows.
Howard had a good day at home, even did some walking around the yard with no falls. He had one fall the next morning in the bathroom, but no cuts or broken bones.
I had a dental appointment on Monday morning at ten so took Howard back to St. Joseph's before I spent 15 minutes and $118 for a filling. I bought a few things that Howard needed, got some groceries at the Co-op and was off to attend Faith Circle at Doris Yergens at 1:30. It was great to be together again for a bible study and fellowship after missing several sessions. We use the study in the Women of the ELCA magazine called "Gather". The new study started in September and is on the book of Mark. The questions led to some interesting discussions among the six of us. Our next meeting will be on October 17 at our place. We usually meet on the second Monday but that will be Thanksgiving so we will meet a week later.
Later, on Tuesday afternoon: Clare made a trip to Estevan to pick up some batteries that he had ordered. He also picked up Howard and brought him home for an overnight stay. I volunteered to play for a 10:00 service in Howard's wing at St. Joe's on Wednesday morning, so will bring him back then. In the afternoon our accordion group is playing at 2:00 at the nursing home so I will join them there. Kirk has a dentist appointment in the afternoon so plans to take Howard out for lunch.
Howard did very well today, was outside walking around and enjoyed watching Clare and Jake load the rest of Clare's mustard into a semi to go to Chamberlain. He grated carrots from the garden for salad and enjoyed the cooked beets too. This evening he ventured downstairs and we watched a news special on Jackie Kennedy's tapes. The Cuban Crisis still sticks in my mind. I was teaching in Shaunavon at that time and was at the U of S in Saskatoon the day that President Kennedy was shot. Now we have had the tenth anniversary of 9-11, another infamous day in history where everyone remembers where they were when it happened.
It's bedtime so I better sign off for now. Have a great rest of the week.
