HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHAUNA!

September is a busy month for birthdays in our family, and Shauna's on September 9th is the third one in three days.  She has beautiful summer weather to enjoy on her special day.  This entire week has been at least ten degrees above normal with temperatures around plus 30 every day.  We love it, and so do the late crops and gardens.  This should ripen up the tomatoes before a frost  hits.  I have ten plants so will be giving away tomatoes in the next couple weeks.

Shauna and Kirk, April 8, 2000
Shauna became part of our family on April 8, 2000 when she and Kirk were married at Salem Lutheran Church just two miles north of our farm.  Not many grooms have to clean the church before their wedding but Kirk and his groomsmen did just that.  The weather wasn't warm but with the help of a generator and a couple heaters it was okay, as long as you had long sleeves or a sweater. (It was a little too chilly for cousin Heather, who played the flute!)  This was the first wedding at Salem since Maxine Tenold and Gerald Olsen's wedding in July of 1954!

Shauna (Fornwald)  graduated from Lampman High School, got her Bachelor of Commerce in Saskatoon, and worked in Estevan and Saskatoon before she met Kirk.  He was living in Lampman, where he worked for Freitag Farmcare, but had to go to Saskatoon to meet Shauna!  Kirk's good friend, Lyle Fornwald, a cousin of Shauna's, was the matchmaker who introduced them.  For their wedding gift, he gave them shares in "Johnson and Johnson".  When Kirk and Shauna had a new house moved to Lampman, they ended up living right across the street from Kirk's first residence in Lampman - at a unit in the senior housing complex.  So you won't have far to move when you retire - back across the street!

Shauna worked for SRI Homes in Estevan until their son, Carter Nicholas Johnson, arrived on Dec. 26, 2001.  Now he has two sisters - Lindsay Paige was born on Feb. 26, 2004 and Jamie Ava on July 31, 2007.  Jamie arrived on her Auntie Loretta's birthday.  Not everyone gives their only sister a new niece for her birthday but that's what Shauna did!

Tonight Shauna phoned to get my recipe for whole wheat bread.  I got the recipe thanks to Bernice Storlie, formerly of Lampman, so the recipe has come "home".  Shauna's mom, Louise, has done a lot of baking and is famous for her butterhorns.  Shauna is following in her steps.  Good luck with the bread recipe, now that you've mastered making buns.

Shauna and Kirk enjoyed a weekend away by themselves and took in the great Rider game last Sunday in Regina.  Carter, Lindsay and Jamie spent the weekend at the farm, along with Laurel, Dawson, Eric and Ashley.  The cousins had a great time together, even took in the bull riding event in Torquay.  (Grandma gladly stayed home with Ashley and we had a great time too!)

Shauna and Kirk have made good use of their camper again this summer with trips to Kenosee, Cypress and Clear Lake, Manitoba.  Here's a picture of their first trip with it to Oungre.

Shauna is a "stay at home mom" but does accounting from home for a friend's business, especially at month end times.  She also put in lots of volunteer hours in Lampman community.

Have a very Happy Birthday, Shauna.  We love you and are glad that Kirk chose you to be part of our family!
