FALL WORK

When the harvest is over, there is still work to be done on the farm.   One of the jobs at the Johnson farm is to gather and burn the flax straw so it is off the field for next year's seeding.  Kirk, Carter, Lindsay and Jamie came out on Saturday and helped with several fall projects.  Kirk and Carter have had their dune buggy at the farm so that was handy to drive along and light the rows of straw with the propane torch.  There was a light wind so it turned out to be a good day to do the fields here at home.  Here's a picture of Kirk and Clare.  Looks like they are enjoying their work!

Jamie and Lindsay helped Grandma pick the rest of the potatoes and onions.  I had done the beets and carrots earlier in the week.  I didn't have a big garden but it's nice to have a few home grown veggies, along with the canned peaches and apple sauce.  I missed out on preserving any tomatoes as I wasn't home to cover them when frost came.  I enjoyed many meals of fresh tomatoes though!

Kirk did some grocery shopping for me on his way through Estevan so that will keep me supplied for the week.  I'll be in Regina the end of this week for appointments on Thursday and Friday.  It will be a good chance to visit with my friend since high school days in Frontier, Marilyn (Anderson) Scheske.  I plan to take the bus from Weyburn on Wednesday evening.

Hallowe'en is just around the corner.  Nora is all set with her watermelon costume.

Todd and his volleyball crew will be back in Førde on Monday after two weeks at a resort area in Turkey.  The temperatures have ranged from 25 to 30 degrees C with instruction and games of
beach volleyball at this popular site on the Mediterranean.

Kristy and Nora enjoyed a visit from Nora's "Norsk bestemor" this week.  With both of Nora's grandmas far away in Canada, she needed one who is close by.  Gunn has become very special to their family. Here she is with Nora as they are reunited again.  Thank you Gunn, for filling in for these faraway grandmas.

I would like to see the reaction when Papa Todd comes home tomorrow after two weeks away.  No doubt they have had several Facebook visits but all three will be excited to be together again!

Time to get back to the World Series game!  See you later this week.

  1. Sabe is going up on Thursday morning for hockey if you want to entertain the idea of riding up with him. Terran plays at 11:15AM so he's leaving early that morning. Probably at 8:00 ish.
