THANKSGIVING

I can't take credit for this picture that was shared on Facebook so must thank Michael/Shannon Daae for taking it.  It's taken on a country road north-west of here near the Cranna farm and is a popular site for wedding, family or grad pictures.  An oil company wanted to get rid of these trees so close to the road but thankfully they still stand, a beautiful site, especially in fall.

I spent a lovely Thanksgiving weekend starting with worship service at Trinity with Pastor Danny and fellowship over coffee that followed.  In the afternoon I went to Estevan with Vickie and Darrell to attend the 60th wedding anniversary for former Torquay residents, Gordon and Gen Kvammen.  It was wonderful to see all their family and many friends who came to celebrate with them.  The Torquay Grannies were honoured to sing a couple numbers for them.  We chose a favourite hymn of Gordon's - "Precious Lord, Take my Hand" and a hymn of Thanksgiving - "Count Your Blessings".  Family and friends shared many memories as well as interesting facts about life in 1954. (Picture to be added later)

Kirk came in and visited a bit before we headed for Lampman where Shauna had a lovely turkey meal ready for us.  "Johnny Appleseed" was our grace, a favourite of the kids.  In the evening we all found spots on their new cosy corduroy couch and watched "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" with Steve Martin, a great family film.
A Thanksgiving feast!

On Thanksgiving Day I walked with the grandkids over to see their Grandpa Ralph at the nursing home.  He commented on Lindsay's "native hairdo" as she had her hair in thick braids!  Shauna's brother Aaron, his wife and daughter from Saskatoon joined us for lunch before heading home after visiting her folks in Carlyle.  Aaron and Kirk are both avid Boston Bruin fans.

In the evening Kirk got a fire going in the backyard fire pit and we enjoyed roasted hotdogs as we sat around the cosy fire.

In the morning Kirk took me to my Dr. appointment in Weyburn.  I have had two episodes of passing out for a short time so will be referred to a stroke clinic in Regina for thorough testing.  In the meantime I am not to drive.  Good timing as Kirk installed a new 50 inch TV for me in the living room on Saturday.  Yesterday the piano tuner came and even better than the tuning, he was able to fix a broken pedal.  The piano is fun to play again!

Update:  I just had a call from the stroke clinic at the General Hospital.  I can get in next Monday morning so that was great news as I thought I might be waiting weeks to get in.  Laurel will take me there so that works out great.

I have much to be thankful for, most of all a loving and supportive family who I often take for granted but am reminded how wonderful they are when health changes and I have them to help out in any way needed.  I am also thankful for friends who are willing to help out by taking me places when I'm not allowed to drive. (Hopefully that restriction won't be for too long!)

Thanks to all the readers of my blog.  I have been hit and miss with blogging the past two months so I hope I can get back to a more regular schedule soon.  Thanks to friends to visit with through messages and phone calls.  Those relationships are precious and add much joy to my life.  I am so blessed and hope that I in turn can be a blessing to others.  I will close with this plaque that was my Grandma and Grandpa Haaland's and now hangs in a bedroom in my home. It is wonderful to leave the future in God's hands!  The verses are from Psalm 37:4-5.

I am also thankful that the harvest has come to an end, finished up yesterday!  It was wonderful to have another spell of lovely fall weather to enable the rest of the grain to be taken off.  The Diekragers finished on Monday so it was truly Thanksgiving at their farm that day.

I will update after my visit to the stroke clinic on Monday, Oct. 20.
