WIND CHILLS.

Today was supposed to be warmer than the last few days but it certainly didn't feel warmer!  That's because the wind was stronger today.  I'm usually not outside much to experience these COLD winds but today I was.  I headed for Lampman before nine this morning and was happy to see the clouds moving off to the east with sunshine for most of the day.  The sun feels warm when you're behind glass in the car or the house but doesn't have much effect when you're facing a STRONG wind.

The cemetery at the Lampman Catholic Church is just behind the church so I walked there with Clare, Jodi and Abbey for the short burial service.  I was so glad for the warm hood on my jacket as we huddled together for warmth beside Louise's grave.  Carter was a pall bearer along with three of his cousins and two of Louise's nephews.  That was a new experience for Carter and for his cousin Kayd as this was also the first funeral she had attended.  I think it helped Kirk's kids that they had experienced  their Grandpa Johnson's passing,  not quite two years ago.  Lindsay even wrote a tribute to her Grandma, as she had done for Grandpa Howard too.  She put a copy in the casket and read "Grandma's Hugs" just before her uncle Aaron shared the eulogy for his mother.  Lindsay has so much feeling for people but she was able to read so well at both grandparents funerals.

"Grandma Weezy" as she was often called, lived in Lampman just a couple blocks north of Kirk's so the kids have had her close by all their young lives.  They will certainly miss that grandma's hugs and her presence at all their special events.  I'll have to make more of an effort to be there for them now.  It's just over an hour's drive from the farm to Lampman but if I go in winter, I usually stay for the night.  I'm planning to go out on Thursday and Jamie and I will make ginger cookies that evening.

I got one quilt top sewed and am working on another one.  I found a box of twelve inch squares among my stash of material so it won't take long to sew those together.  LWR requests that quilts be 60 x 80 inches so 35 blocks works out about right to make a top that size.

Tomorrow I plan to watch some of the Olympic opening ceremony from Sochi.  I sent a package to Todd's with Canada mittens.  They got it yesterday, just in time to show their support for their home country, at least with their hands!  Even though Nora was born in Norway, she is a Canadian like her parents.  Maybe they'll send a picture of them wearing the mittens so I can add it to my next post.

No pictures today but you'll be getting lots on TV if you are following the curling from Quebec  in the Tournament of Hearts.  Today team SK lost to team Canada but they'll meet again in playoffs so I'm pulling for the green and white!  There will be lots of olympic coverage on now too so I might not get much quilting done after all.  I'll let you know how it goes!   Good-night for now.
