VALENTINES WEEKEND

I am enjoying Ashley's company for a few days.  I went to Eric's hockey game in Estevan yesterday afternoon and she came home with me "for four nights" she says.

This morning we went to morning worship at Trinity.  Ashley was pleased to see her friend Emma there.  They sat together as I was at the piano this morning.  Maybe they can get together this week for a playtime.

Now we are back at the farm.  Ashley is watching "Jonah" and I am watching Olympics, off and on.  I just visited with Todd on Facetime.  Kristy's sister Jenny and her husband are holidaying in Hawaii.  They couldn't get coverage of the Canada vs Finland hockey game this afternoon but thanks to technology, they were able to watch it with Todd and Kristy!  Todd had the game on a large screen and connected with Jenny and Troy via Facetime. They watched the nailbiter "together," with Canada scoring in overtime!

Laurel, Greg, Dawson and Eric are on their way to Lanigan by bus for a peewee provincial game.  Eric's team has a game in Crosby this afternoon but he was invited to play with Dawson's team so we'll see how that game turns out.  Lanigan won the first game 10 - 5 on Friday so Milestone will have to beat them by six as it's a total point two game series.  Update:Milestone Flyers lost tonight and Eric's team defeated Crosby without Eric's help.

Today I had a message from my niece in Birch Hills telling of the passing of Maxine (Tenold) Olson. Her funeral was on Valentines day. Gerald and Maxine along with Kirk and Shauna were the last two couples married at Salem Lutheran Church, just two miles up the road from here.  Last August the two couples were together at the annual service held there.  Gerald and Maxine celebrated their 59th, Kirk and Shauna their 14th in 2013.

I share the week of my birthday with two dear friends. Myrna (Gilchrist) Damm of Yuma, AZ and Boise, ID, was born on February 15, and Marilyn (Anderson) Scheske of Regina celebrates hers today, February 16.  Last year I spent two weeks in Yuma with Myrna and Ernie and enjoyed attending many events with them, the highlight for me being a local production of "My Fair Lady".  Later on in February I was thrilled to have Marilyn and Ray with me to hear "The Tenors" in concert in Regina.  These friendships go back many years as Myrna and I met at the age of ten (our grandmas were cousins so we are actually third cousins!) and Marilyn and I met in our teenage years back in Frontier.  Both relationships are ones that no matter how long between visits, we just pick up where we left off.  Those kind of friends are to be treasured!  I had telephone visits with both of them tonight.

Valentines Day had it's sad moments for me, especially when I ended up reading a book with a sad ending!  I have done more reading than usual this winter, partly because I have access to lots of good, inspirational books at Torquay library.  One of the books had two sequels, which weren't in the library.  I ordered them from Amazon so now we'll know what happened next!  I passed the first one on to Dorthea, who is 95 and still likes to read and do jigsaw puzzles.

When I was at Kirk and Shauna's on Thursday evening I got to see Lindsay off to her first school dance -a Valentine one for grades four to six from 6 to 8 pm.  She came home with a big smile on her face, a very special evening for a soon to be ten years old girl.

Ashley is sound asleep and her family is on the way home from Lanigan.  It was good timing as tomorrow is Family Day in SK so most of them can sleep in.  I think Ashley and I will do that too!
See you later this week.  Good night!
