Or after two weeks of Olympic coverage, it could be the sign that the Olympics have come to an end! It has been great to follow our Canadian athletes as they have represented our country so well, uniting us from west to east as we cheered them on. I was even up early this morning to watch the gold medal hockey game, not because I'm an avid hockey fan, but just because I'm Canadian and proud of it. I couldn't watch the closing ceremonies live as it was on during our morning worship at Trinity. I watched it this evening and it left me feeling sad for a couple reasons. I've always watched these events with Howard and tonight it was just me sitting in "his chair" in front of the TV. And I felt sad for the athletes who had enjoyed this mountain top experience and now it was time to leave it all behind and say good-bye to old friends and new. Many will be training for the next one in South Korea, but for many this was their last. Whether they won medals or not, it must have been such an unforgettable experience to be together with many of the best athletes in the world. I was disappointed that the Norsk curling team didn't make the playoffs, but hope they do better in the upcoming worlds.
Ashley and I went to Estevan on Friday and attended the funeral for Amanda Mellom. We had visited her at the Nursing Home where she passed away at the age of 101. Her daughter Bea is married to Dave Bergum, Howard's cousin. It was at Dave and Bea's home in Swift Current where Howard and I met on March 8, 1965. I used to babysit their daughter Kathy so it was great to see them again. Dave and Bea are Laurel's godparents so I took a picture for her.
After the funeral I got groceries, then met Laurel at the library before Eric's hockey game. I didn't stay for the game as I like to get home before dark.
I had been home an hour or so when I noticed that it was cool in the house. No wonder, as the thermostat showed 60º F ! The furnace was running, but producing no heat. I hated to get a repairman out from Estevan in the late evening but decided to call Mid City where we got the furnace. Kim answered right away and said that he was on his way to Torquay so would be out as soon as he'd checked out a furnace there! Was that a coincidence? I had just started making a batch of flatbread when he drove in and had the furnace going and was headed back to Estevan in less than a half hour! He replaced a switch that was causing the problem and I gave the furnace filter a good cleaning and I'm staying nice and warm again.
Good night all.
