OCTOBER 24

I mixed up four batches of flatbread this morning and was intending to bake a batch this evening.  But I think I'll work on my blog instead and do the flatbread in the morning.

I spent the afternoon in Estevan, but didn't get as much shopping done as I'd planned.  I have this nice purple Lug bag that has room for anything you want to take along.  Our Torquay Grannies were scheduled to sing at 3:30 at St. Joseph's Special Care Home.  I made sure I had my water bottle, our book of trio music plus the book of music our accordion group uses.  Vi has bronchitis and Vickie had carpal tunnel surgery so neither one could play the piano along with the accordion.  Our singing voices need breaks so some extra music takes care of that.  Ella Messer, who plays piano with the accordion group, kindly consented to join us this afternoon.

I went to town early so I could get a few things done before the 1:00 appointment at Long Creek Motors to get the oil changed on the Escape.  When I stopped at Dollarama, I dug in my bag to get my wallet.  It was not to be found!  I did find a $20 bill and also a $10 so could get a few things for the Christmas Child boxes.  But what about the oil change?  When I got there I explained the situation and was just told to pay them the next time I'm in town.  I guess it helped that I had bought my Escape there!  I keep some change in my vehicle so had enough to buy some milk and fruit at the Co-op and that was the extent of my shopping today!  It was a helpless feeling not to even have access to a credit card.  I'll have to keep one of my cards right in the purse instead of keeping them both in my wallet.  Or else I better check to be sure my wallet is in the bag before I leave the house.  Lesson learned.  My wallet was safe at home, hidden under some books and paper clutter in the office.  Time to clean!

It's always good to do a program at St. Joe's.  The residents appreciate it so much.  Most of them don't get out much so it's a nice change in routine for them.  There are many with Torquay connections so it's good to spend time visiting too.  It's easier now that the piano has been moved out into the TV area.  It used to be in the lockdown area where Howard stayed so it was harder for me to be part of a program there with all the memories.

Last Sunday one of the hymns was "Lead Me, Guide Me".  It's a song that Howard and I sang.  I was playing the accordion along with Vi on the piano.  I was okay until the third verse and then I couldn't quite get all the words out. One never knows when something will trigger a memory.  And that's good too, because I certainly want to remember those precious memories, even though it might bring a tear or  two.

As I was typing this, I got an email message from a friend with a website for one of those "flashmob scenes" that take place at a mall, train station or where ever.  A group of musicians or a choir suddenly join the scene, coming from all directions.  They start making music and continue as more and more join in.  This one happens to be "Joyful, Joyful We Adore You" although it's not in English.  It's fun to see the reactions of the crowd as they see this concert taking place in front of them, all unannounced.  I hope you can copy this address and watch it too.

If you click on the purple line you will see a Go to link.  Click on that line and it should take you to this "flashmob" scene.  Enjoy as that's my picture for this post. Thanks Alan!  And good-night all.
