END OF HARVEST!

We are celebrating today! The 2012 crop is all off as of around 1:30 a.m.!  I helped Clare move to the land he rents "out west" yesterday afternoon so he got started on the 80 acres of late canola before dark.   With a forecast of rain and possible snow for today, he kept going until he finished the field.  I had gone to bed and didn't even hear him come home and have the bowl of soup that was waiting in the microwave.  This morning we made the run again, this time to move the combine home. It started sprinkling as he was unloading the header and I had the wipers going most of the way home.  Now I see that Ambrose has a winter weather advisory out for tonight and early tomorrow!  Summer weather has given way to autumn (or winter?) overnight.  We have been spoiled with the very warm temperatures for the entire harvest season and no rain delays.  There are still crops out, mostly corn and sunflowers, but rain will soon be welcome as the fields are showing cracks in the ground in many places.  It was too dry to seed winter wheat in this area after a bumper crop of winter wheat that was seeded last fall.

This afternoon Lindsay phoned me from their cell phone all excited.  She is taking part in cross country running and won a first place medal for the SE district.  I'm sure Shauna got some pictures so I'll have one to post here.  Congratulations, Lindsay!  It's been a cold, windy day but Lindsay said it was worth it!  I watched her run in Estevan a couple weeks ago and the weather was just the opposite - a hot day!

A gold medal and a red ribbon for Lindsay
Congratulations!
I talked to Shauna this evening.  She said there were a total of around six hundred runners at the meet in Carnduff today.  Lindsay won in the class of  32 grade three girls from the SE Cornerstone School Divison.  Well done, Lindsay!  It was special that both Kirk and Shauna were there to cheer her on.

I had an enjoyable evening as Louise and Hartley invited me, along with Gail and Ron, to join them up town for pizza at Barley's.  They had ordered ahead so it was ready just a few minutes after we got there, very good meat lovers pizza.  We had a nice visit there and would have continued the visit at their farm but I had set the oven to clean shortly before they phoned and thought I better get back to check on that.

On Sunday little Nora Josephine Johnson will be baptized at their local Lutheran church in Kristiansund.  Ruth and Rolf Hansen will be her godparents and Kristy's folks will be present for the baptism of their first grandchild.  Nora will wear the baptismal gown that Todd wore and the bonnet that Kristy wore.  Kristy will wear her special bunad.  I'm sure there will be a few pictures taken so I can post them next week, probably not until Monday.

On Sunday we will also be attending a baptism for Sandra's youngest grandchild, Rhett Oscar Sanford. Marion and Jason have asked Clare to be his godfather. Rhett was born on Clare's birthday so they already have a special relationship!

There's no snow here yet, so maybe we are missing out this time. The trees have really been losing their leaves the last few days so are living out the name of the season, fall.  We look forward to more nice weather after this first cold spell.  The clothing stores will be happy as it makes us think of heavier jackets, sweaters and even boots and mittens.

Best wishes for a blessed Thanksgiving weekend to all you readers in Canada.  I am so thankful to be able to share my thoughts and family happenings with you.  Blogging is a good outlet for me and a way to keep in touch with family and friends.  Now I'm going to check and see if it's my turn in any of the Scrabble games that I'm playing through Facebook!  There's always room for another player if you wish to join in the fun.
