OF RINGS AND THINGS

The Stanley Cup games are down to the finals.  Vancouver just won their second game tonight with a quick overtime goal.  I dozed off during the third period so thought I might just as well leave that scene and get ready for bed but here I am on the computer.

The Diekrager kids were excited last week to be able to put a Stanley Cup ring on their fingers!  Greg's cousin has his daughter and son-in-law visiting from Chicago.  Troy plays hockey with the Black Hawks so brought his ring along from their win in 2010.  I don't think he'll be letting anyone take it to school for show and tell though!

I spent quite a few hours outside on Saturday - cut the grass and the dandelion field behind the house.  Clare came out later in the day and sprayed some more of the weeds in the yard.  I found a new spot for my tomato plants so got them transplanted.  The spot where I usually plant them is still wet and weedy so it was time for a change.  I worked up a few feet of dirt next to the foundation where the barn used to be.  Clare has a grain bin on part of that space but I don't think my plants will interfere with unloading (or loading if we happen to have a crop this fall).  It's still too wet to get into the fields but the forecast is for warm weather for the next couple days.  It seems that about the time the ground is dry enough to try seeding, we get more rain.  But I guess that's preferable to the dry situation farther north in Saskatchewan and Alberta.

That's as far as I got last night so will continue this before I head for bed on Sunday evening.  I went to the 8:30 service at Torquay this morning, but I didn't get there until 8:40 or so.  I got behind a big tractor and air seeder and followed this for close to 3 miles at 20 km an hour.  I was beginning to think I'd be behind it all the way to Torquay but he turned off north of Hartley's and I was able to speed up and arrived just as the Psalm was being read.

After coffee with lots of goodies and visiting in the kitchen, I was off to Estevan for the day.  After lunch Howard and I spent some time at Can. Tire and WalMart.  Then we visited Lawrence and Lilah and had pizza with them before heading back to St. Joseph's.  Howard had a relaxing afternoon, even dozed off on Daae's sofa a couple times.  We also visited Aunt Viola for a bit before I left for home.

Clare was still in the field when I got home but now is off to bed after getting stuck a few times today.  I hope he has a better day tomorrow.  It's a challenging spring here in SE SK.
