I did venture out, but only as far as Ambrose to get the mail at the post office and the elevator. The agents there are willing to accept UPS shipments, for a small fee. It's a great service as otherwise we'd have to go to Crosby for parcels that are shipped UPS. Clare had ordered parts for a motor for the boat that he got from his brother-in-law. With so little crop seeded, he should have lots of time to go boating this summer! He won't have to go far either.
CKCK TV supper news showed the battle that Lampman is putting up to save their town from flooding. I so hope and pray that it's enough to keep all that water out of town. Kirk has been helping with sandbagging, not an easy job when you're at it for hours. Kirk and Shauna worked hard to move things in their basement up to higher ground. Better to be safe than sorry. As the mayor of Lampman remarked," We're preparing for the worst and hoping for the best."
Minot, ND is another story. The mayor there says that the battle is lost, even before the deluge of water moves in. They are working to protect vital services and 12,000 people have been ordered to evacuate. Record flood levels are predicted with devastating consequences for homes and businesses. Our cousins, Jerry and Laurel Schlag, are out of their home and don't know if they'll even have a home to move back to after the flood.
On a brighter note, here's the part about "green again". About two weeks before our wedding on July 23, 1966, Howard bought a new hard top Ford Fairlane, the only new vehicle we've had in our 45 years! Howard remembers that the colour was "honey gold" but it had a metallic green tinge as I remember it. When our family outgrew this vehicle, we traded for a green station wagon at Percival Motors in Regina. That was the end of our green vehicles, until now. But that's not the end of the story of our first green car. One day this winter I answered the phone and had a fellow inquire "Did you by any chance once own a 1966 Ford Fairlane?" I quickly answered, "Yes, that was our honeymoon car!" Well, his young son had acquired it from a cousin and was planning to help his dad restore it! The owners manual was still in the car with Howard's name in it! The car is at Cupar, had been stored for many years in a shed and now this young boy has plans to fix it up. I thought it had gone to the wreckers long ago so what a pleasant surprise to know that it was still around after forty-five years. I told him that we'd have to come up and go for a ride when the restoration is complete. I found a couple pictures so you can see it here.
