| Grad banquet in May, 1988 |
If you are on Facebook you have already seen the above picture that I posted from Clare's graduation banquet back in 1988. I found a few others so will share those with you too. This weekend was Homecoming at LCBI, Outlook. The emphasis is on class reunions, especially for every fifth year. I think they have even had a 70th class represented one year. Howard went to Bible School there and we enjoyed attending the 50 year reunion in 2005.
Laurel didn't get to her 25th in 2011 and Clare almost didn't get to his either. He was combining soybeans until midnight on Friday. I was surprised when he came up early for breakfast on Saturday and said that he was going to Outlook. He had his school jacket on and was set to go. It's such a special time and I was so glad to hear that he was making that extra effort to go, leaving the combining to Jason and the rest of the crew. I'm not sure if they finished last night or not as it started raining towards evening. It was amazing that they were able to go at all after some damp weather and cool days. But the soybeans were dry!
When Clare graduated none of his grandparents were living. Grandpa Johnson passed away in 1981, Grandma Erickson in 1984 and Grandpa Erickson in 1987. Howard's mother died in 1958. Three of his grandparents had all been to Clare's kindergarten grad in 1975. But the Johnson family was well represented as four of the five great aunts came to LCBI for his grade 12 graduation.

Perhaps I can add some pictures of the class of 1988 twenty-five years later when Clare gets back from his weekend trip. One good thing about iPhones - you always have a camera with you!

Guess what? I found my glasses that have been missing for about a month! I was sure they were in the house but had looked every possible place that I thought they could be. Yesterday I decided it was time to put flannel sheets back on my bed. I got them on and went back to the linen closet to look for a pillow case. ( I finally decided to go with one pillow on my bed and now I sleep in the middle, no longer on "my side".) I found a pillow case, happened to look down and there my glasses were - on the floor of the closet! I'm not sure how they got there, perhaps in with some newly washed bedding from the laundry room. Anyway, the lost is found and I am very glad. I went to the optometrist on Oct. 9 to get my eyes checked "just in case". Dr. Sliva said that my eyes hadn't changed much from the last checkup so that was good to hear. I took my prescription home but hadn't ordered any new glasses yet. Sometimes it's okay to be a procrastinator!
Friday was a busy day as it was my turn to cook. It was cool and windy so I thought that soup would be good for lunch, meaning I'd bring it out to the field instead of just sending out lunch when they went to work in the morning. I made a batch of hamburger soup with homemade buns and some leftover pumpkin dessert and headed for the field. When I got there the combines were close by, perfect timing. I went to open the back door and it was locked. When I went to open it from the driver's side, that door was also locked! I had pushed the "lock" button in my haste to get at the lunch! So the Escape sat there with all the lunch and the key in the ignition of this locked vehicle. Fortunately I hadn't taken my Lug bag along with the extra key in it or it would have been locked in too. Teresa kindly gave me a ride home and the guys went back combining. The big kettle of soup was wrapped in a bathtowel and was still too hot to eat when we got back so all was well, although lunch was a little late that day. I managed to bring supper out without any unexpected problems!
On Saturday I headed to Ambrose for the mail. When I looked at the bulletin board in the post office, I saw the sign advertising a program that day in Crosby celebrating Norwegian heritage. I had seen the poster earlier but didn't make a note of it as I thought I wouldn't be going. I had just gone to Ambrose "as is" and since this wasn't a "come as you are party" I turned around and went home. It was a good day to do yard work so I got some weeds trimmed and froze six containers of ripe tomatoes. Next time when I see a poster of an event that I'd like to attend, I'll add it to my phone. Lesson learned!
A hunter from Saskatoon came by on Thursday and wondered if I'd like some pheasant if he got some. I said that I would take one. Yesterday he stopped by with four in a bag. They were skinned with the wings left on to prove that they were males. I stuck them in the fridge and wondered how I should fix them. Ione had said that she wraps them in bacon and that sounded like a good idea. I checked on the internet and found some good directions there for baking them. Jeff was game to try this prairie dish so that's what we had for supper tonight. They were actually better than I thought they'd be, moist and tasty, not dark and "wild". Jeff enjoyed them too. I froze two of them so we'll have another feast some day. But I didn't serve them under glass, Vickie!
You might have noticed that I am following two new blogs. The Caring Bridge one is for Jeff Roller, my cousin Esther's son-in-law. Jeff is battling a lung infection as he waits for a liver transplant in Dallas, Texas. Pray that he gets good news on Wed. as doctors decide if he can go back on the active transplant list when his antibiotics and other medications are done.
The Norway 2013-14 one is from Brent Gulbranson, Esther's grandson from East Grand Forks, MN, who is taking a year of university in Oslo and writing about his experiences. It's fun to see life in Norway from a young American's viewpoint.
Tomorrow I'm taking my 1994 Mercury to Estevan for a "check up". Ardis needs a different vehicle and I want to find out if this one is in good enough condition to pass inspection in Alberta. I haven't used it much since I got the Escape so it's time to pass it on to someone who can make us of it. It's almost twenty years old so will soon classify as an antique!
I don't get an answer at Clare's so I'll publish this now and update with pictures later. Have a good week. It's time to dig out the winter wear as there were snowflakes falling today! Brr!
