Kristy asked me how we celebrated our 10th anniversary and I really couldn't remember what we did. We likely spent it in Frontier with my folks as that would have been their 35th. She said that when her folks celebrated their 10th, Kristy broke her arm. A week after Todd and Kristy's 10th, Nora broke her leg and another Johnson is now wearing a cast. Carter got his off on Thursday and Nora got hers on Friday. I hope it doesn't go in threes!
Kristy was carrying Nora down the stairs, as she has done so often, but this time she slipped, fell backwards and Nora's leg got caught somehow. She didn't cry much, Todd went to work but Kristy stayed home with Nora. She noticed that Nora was favouring her right leg, not stepping on it. She made two trips to the hospital and after x-rays on the second trip a cast was in order. The breaks are above the ankle but her whole leg is in a cast with just her toes sticking out. This is a heavy plaster cast that will be exchanged for a lighter one in a week or so.
The break is likely harder on Kristy than on Nora! It's a tough thing for a mom to go through but she's not the first and won't be the last. I know my sister can relate as Jason went down the basement stairs in his walker before he was a year old.. As in the case of Carter's accident, we're just so thankful it wasn't any worse. Kristy was banged up a bit too but the emotional feelings would be the hardest to deal with.
Stairs can be a hazard at any age. I usually grab the railing now when I am on a stairway. Nora looks as happy as ever! She wasn't walking yet, but would take a few steps on her own. She'll soon catch up when the cast comes off!
Trinity is now offering Sunday School classes as part of the worship service. Today was the first session with my turn at being the teacher. I brought my own students as Carter, Lindsay and Jamie were here overnight. Little Jessica joined us for a bit but she felt safer going back to her mom. These first sessions are on Creation so Jamie worked on a booklet and took it home to fill in the rest of the pages.
Carter finally got back on the combine this afternoon, even unloaded on the go with Clare in the truck. I picked him up later and took the kids back to Lampman, in time for a delicious take out from the Fall Supper. Shauna said they served close to 400 meals.
I'm staying overnight in Lampman as I don't drive after dark when I can avoid it. I'll stop in Estevan on the way back to the farm in the morning and pick up some groceries so I'll be set for the week. I hope the nice weather stays around so harvest can soon wrap up. I'm thankful we didn't get the dump of snow that happened in South Dakota and other areas in the US. I'll see you again later in the week. I'm off to Weyburn on Tuesday for my yearly medical. Always good to get that over with!
