It seems like the weekend should be here but it's just Wednesday! I guess that's because every day has been busy, especially today.
I came home from Lampman on Monday morning in time to make lunch for the harvesters. I didn't have to pack it as they were heading for the field around noon so stopped in here to eat. The night before they quit around eight so I was expecting them for supper about then. However, conditions were better and they kept combining until nine, a rather late supper.
On Tuesday I headed for Weyburn for my yearly medical. My appointment was for 2:30 and I was out and had my three prescriptions filled by 3:00. It was such a nice day that I didn't spend much time in the city but headed home to do some yard work before it got dark.
This morning I was off to Estevan to have blood work done for the medical I had yesterday. I prefer to do that at the Estevan lab as you don't need an appointment, just pick a number and wait your turn. I was in luck, there was only one ahead of me so I was in and out in short order. I made a quick visit to Shauna's dad, Ralph, at St. Joseph's hospital. I brought him some flatbread and then drove over to St. Peter's Lutheran Church for the funeral service for Leo Freitag. His wife Irene gave me organ lessons several years ago. Leo and Irene once surprised us with a visit here at the farm and we saw them a few times in Estevan.
It was different going to a funeral by myself but I decided to stay for the lunch that followed. There was an empty spot at a table by the door. I didn't know any of the people but I asked if anyone was coming to join them. The answer was no and when I sat down they said they were all from North Dakota. I told them that I was almost from there too - live just 2 1/2 miles north of the border. They were nieces and nephews of Irene so I enjoyed visiting with them over lunch.
Today is my friend Phyllis' birthday so that was my next stop, also with some flatbread and a Norsk coffee mug. They were planning to celebrate at their daughter Sandy's later in the day.
Then I was off for an appointment to have my eyes checked at South East Eyecare. I have misplaced my glasses and will end up with new ones if mine don't show up soon. Dr. Sliva told me of another case of lost glasses. The lady finally ordered a new pair as she had searched high and low with no sign of them. She phoned the next year to tell her the glasses had been found - when she went to do her income tax and found them in the filing cabinet. Maybe I should check there too!
My Kiwi needed a wash so I filled up with gas at the Co-op and waited my turn for the Touchless Car wash. I picked up a few things at Home Hardware, got some groceries and headed for home. It was another beautiful fall day so I spent an hour or so cutting down hollyhocks and clearing out other dead branches. The next task will be raking leaves on the lawn and also cleaning them out of the eave troughs.
Tomorrow I'm scheduled for volunteer duty at the Torquay Library from 10 until 11:30 a.m. It's a new time and we are hoping some of the moms who bring their children to Thursday morning playschool will stop by to borrow books as playschool is in the next room. There are books for all ages so come and browse if you are nearby.
Shauna sent me a picture of three Johnsons off on their bikes to school so that's what's at the top of this page. It's her Mom's birthday today too so she was at Kirk and Shauna's for supper and birthday cake.
Well, I better do some planning for my turn for meals tomorrow so I will sign off for now. Harvest is progressing well this week. They finished the flax yesterday, were cleaning up some late seeded lentils today and have soybeans left. They might get one more good day in and then there's rain in the forecast. We are thankful that most of the bumper crop is in the bin, or gone to the terminal. We have much to be thankful for on this upcoming Thanksgiving Day.
