HUMP DAY

Combines parked at supper time!

Today it was my turn to cook for the harvesters.  I sent noon lunch out for five workers this morning.  By the time I left for the field with supper, the count was up to ten!  Good thing the eight pork chops were big enough so that two could share a couple of them!  I baked them in the oven after browning them, adding onions and mushroom soup for gravy and fresh carrots and potatoes from the garden.  Along with home made bread, sliced tomatoes from the garden and peach pie with ice cream for dessert, all ten had enough to eat.  It was great that the crew took a supper break and all came to eat at one spot, next to an oil well area so we didn't have to park in a field.

I was "out west" by five thirty so I was able to get home in good time before sunset.  I should have counted the vehicles I met both going out and coming home - road graders, a fuel truck, oil tankers,  semis hauling grain, trucks pulling loads for a new well site and of course a few pickups.  There are speed limit signs in that RM for 60 kph but I had to go faster than that to keep ahead of some.  I  pulled over and let an oil truck pass me so he wouldn't be right on my tail.  I was glad to get that 19 mile trip, one way, over with for this season!

Yesterday was a fun day as I went to Estevan to watch Lindsay take part in another cross country race. It took place at a park close to Spruce Ridge School.  Lindsay came in first again with a time of 7 minutes 30 seconds.  The girl in second place for the 2 km run was a full minute behind her!  To celebrate, I went with Shauna, Carter, Lindsay, Jamie and Grandma Louise to EB's for supper.  Then I picked up some groceries at the Co-op and headed from home.  I didn't even hear Clare come home from the field but I guess it was around midnight.  They were delayed by some truck troubles.

Today had rain in the forecast but I guess it's waiting until tonight.  They are working on the last field of durum out west so it would have been great to finish there before it rains.  Then they have soy beans and flax to do closer to home.

I have some errands to do in Torquay tomorrow so a trip uptown is on the agenda.  I should mix up some ginger cookies tonight so I can bake them in the morning.  This morning I mixed up a batch of granola so maybe that will be my bedtime snack tonight, along with some kiwi and lemon yogurt.

I'm planning on doing an extra post this week so I can fit in Todd and Kristy's 10th anniversary on Friday.  I sent a parcel from Crosby last Wednesday.  Tracking says it has cleared customs in Norway so it should make it to Kristiansund by Friday.  See you later this week!
