GOOD NEWS DAY!

Shauna took Carter up to Regina today to see the plastic surgeon who tended to Carter's wound after his accident with the mower on August 30.  They had another appointment on Friday to put a cast on his arm if the cut was healing properly.  Surprise!  He came home with a cast today, making another trip this week unnecessary. ( Thanks for the pictures, Shauna)
First to the finish line, way to go Lindsay!!

Lindsay phoned me later this afternoon excited about winning first in a 2 km race in Estevan!  "And guess who came to see me - Ken!"  The race took place close to St. Joseph's so Ken was able to come out in his motorized chair and watch her go by.  The kids got to know Ken when they would visit Grandpa and enjoy keeping in touch with him still.

I went to Crosby this morning to get a parcel off to Todd and Kristy, who will celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary on Sept. 27.  They were married on a Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in Scandia, AB and moved to Norway the following Wednesday.  Kristy is from Brooks, AB and had never been to Norway but they thought they would go for "a year or two".  Ten years later, now with little Nora, there are no signs of them moving back any time soon.  The bonus is that many family members have now gotten over to Norway too.  I have been there six times, four with Howard, then last year with my sister Sandra and with Laurel this past Easter.  We look forward to having them home next July for the Erickson family reunion at Cypress Park.  Nora will be coming two then so should be sharing some Norsk with us.  It will be so much fun to hear her using the Norwegian language that she is immersed in at Barnehage.  She will be bilingual as Todd and Kristy will use English with her at home.

Our beautiful harvest weather came to an end on Tuesday evening.  The crew had moved "out west" that morning and finished the home quarter there.  That will be it for a while.  There was a thunderstorm with heavy rain and even some hail around midnight.  I had to move downstairs as it gets very noisy with heavy rain and hailstones on a metal roof with no attic!  This evening there was another thunderstorm but no hail and it didn't last as long.  I'm hoping that's it for tonight as I want a good night's sleep after an interrupted one last night.

When the girls were here last weekend, we emptied an Oshkosh teddy bear bank that I keep on the washing machine.  When I find money in a pocket, in the bank it goes.  Teddy was getting heavy so we opened it up and counted the collection.  I suggested that we do something special with the funds but we didn't come up with any definite idea.  When I opened the washer after doing a load of Clare's work clothes yesterday, I might have come up with an idea.  Here's what showed up.
You get the picture, even if the rest is hidden for some reason.

It might take most of those funds to buy him a new passport!  I check the front pockets of jeans, but this must have been hiding in a back pocket.  Lesson learned - check ALL pockets!  (I'll be expecting a phone call after he reads this blog post!)  I guess this doesn't really qualify for a good news day does it?

I just got a message on my iPhone about an area flood advisory for parts of North Dakota.  Doppler radar estimated that two to three inches of rain has fallen in the Crosby and Lignite areas tonight.  Runoff from this rainfall may lead to minor flooding of county and township roads.  I think we were on the edge of that downpour, which is south and east of us.  We'll see in the morning!
