FUN AT THE FARM

The Johnson Farm is enjoying having three Johnson "kids" here this week.  Carter has been helping in the field and the girls have been helping clean windows on trucks and combines.

Back to school day is just around the corner, or the weekend to be exact.  Ashley is excited about going on the school bus to kindergarten.  Her first day will be on Wednesday.  When she was here last week she told me "I think my mom will cry!"

We are having a busy, fun week at the farm with Carter, Lindsay and Jamie here for the week.  The big excitement yesterday was finding five new baby kittens!  Here's a picture, thanks to Lindsay.
We made a batch of vanilla ice cream yesterday and a batch of chocolate chip cookies to go with it.  Today Grandma needs to make buns as we are down to the last ones.

We had a shower of rain in the night so no swathing this morning.  Clare is going to Weyburn to pick up Abbey as she is finished her volleyball camp at noon and is anxious to join her cousins at the farm.

Kirk and Shauna have had a great time in New York City and are now on their way to Boston.  They will be taking in three Red Sox games at 7:10 p.m. (5:10 in SK) for the next three evenings before flying back to Minot on Sunday afternoon.

Combining is underway at the Diekrager farm as their lentils are ready.  Clare is hoping to start on the lentils here on Saturday.

I got the green fabric for my "Posies in the Park" quilt so can start on that project, thanks to "The Quilting Hen" at Carter, MT.  I love ordering online and it ships so quickly to Ambrose, ND.

Yesterday I got a parcel off to Nora for her first birthday on Monday, Sept. 7.  I included a set of three Fisher Price tub toys that were Todd's.  I also sent a recordable story book so Nora can hear Farmor reading even if I am across the ocean!
September 7th is a busy day for birthdays in our family with Abbey's and Ardis' on that day as well.  Perhaps they can get together on Facetime!

Yesterday Jamie wanted to play a board game so we got out "Husker Du?" which translates to "Do you remember?"  Jamie remembers very well.  The same is not true for Grandma so I get beat every time!
This has been a hot week so I am thankful that Howard insisted on putting in air conditioning a few years ago!  I was content to cool off in the basement.  Now I have no excuse for not baking in hot weather so I better get at that batch of buns. First I'll have to grind some wheat so I'll have some fresh whole wheat flour.   Have a great rest of the week and keep cool!
