Birthday Week

Lindsay Paige Johnson
nine years old

This last week of February and into March is full of family birthdays!  I surpised granddaughter Lindsay when I showed up at the door for her birthday supper in Lampman last night.  It was fun to hear stories about their fun trip to California during the school break.  Then we went over to Grandma Louise and Ralph's to enjoy cupcakes and ice cream with them.  Lindsay brought her big bag of presents to open there - lots of clothes and two more "bug eyed friends" to add to their collection!

This morning I "hung out" with Jamie while Shauna was at work (via computer in the basement office).  We watched the movie "Soul Surfer", then played "Go Fish", and a game of "Memory"( that Jamie always wins!) and watched a Chipmunks film.  After lunch it was time to head for Estevan.  I got groceries and gas at the Co-op and browsed the aisles in Pharmasave where I found a few birthday gifts.  Then it was time to meet Phyllis and Bob at "Houston Pizza"where we all enjoyed halibut suppers. It's so nice to get an invitation for a supper out!  Our "Torquay Grannies" were scheduled to sing at the monthly birthday party this afternoon at St. Joesph's Special Care Home.  But they are in lockdown so the party was cancelled.

Last Sunday was Samuel Leo Johnson's 9th birthday.  He is Ardis' grandson, lives in Edmonton.
Lindsay shares her birthday with Sandra's grandson, Rylan Scott Conrad of Lacombe, AB,who turned ten on the 26th.  As well, Howard's cousin Edith Vinge , had her 95th birthday in Outlook that day.  She caught up to her Aunt Viola who will be 96 in June.   On March 2nd, Ashley Laura Diekrager will be five and Kristy's Grandma Wanda Dejordjevic in Lethbridge will be 90. Happy Birthday!

I got a quilt top sewed and brought to quilting yesterday!  It's the first sewing that I've done since Howard's passing so it's taken quite awhile to get at things again.  After over forty-five years together it's quite an adjustment to being on my own again.  A spouse is often referred to as "my better half" and adjusting to life without that half takes getting used to.  It's the little things one misses the most.  I don't eat at the table anymore, but use a stool at the counter.  Howard used to watch quite a bit of TV while I'd often be on the couch with a book or magazine.  Now I don't watch a lot of TV, but do usually have the Bose playing music during the day.

Speaking of TV,  I'm looking forward to the special broadcasts of "The Bible" being shown on the History Channel.  There are five in the series starting this Sunday, March 3.  Check the time in your area.  I've already set the PVR to record them.  I especially want my grandchildren to see them.  The series cost twenty-two million dollars to produce and tells His Story from Genesis to Revelation.  Each day this week there are previews of this mini-series on TV's "100 Huntley Street" or on the website, www.100Huntley.com.  The directors are Mark Burnett, who also directed "Survivor," and his wife Roma Downey, whom you may remember from "Touched by an Angel".

Well, Grandma is going to have an early bedtime tonight so will end this post with a "Good Night all".
