Seventy years ago, my first birthday
taken at Grandma and Grandpa Erickson's
( a tinted picture, no colour film back then!) |
It was special to have a Sunday birthday. When I was getting my coat off in the church entry, Michael Daae, Shaya, Lane and Shannon's mother, Sharon Olson were doing the same. Michael and Shannon's third child arrived on Friday, the 8th - a girl named Mychal. Shaya was five on the 7th and Grandma Sharon said it was hers today. So when she wished me Happy Birthday I could say, "And the same to you!"

| Happy 1st Mothers Day, Kristy |
Today was special for mothers in Norway as it was their Mothers Day. It is also the first day of the Chinese New Year so February 10 was a special day all over the world. Howard's mother, Clara, also shared this birthday. Sadly, she died of cancer in 1958 at the age of 54 so I never got to meet my mother-in-law. I was also thinking of Madonna Erickson as she and my cousin Vern were married on this day in 1962. She has been a widow since his sudden passing in 1979.

| Grandma's birthday cake from Abbey |
Clare, Jodi and Abbey joined us for our 10:30 worship at Trinity. We enjoyed Madeline's good baking over coffee in the auditorium, then went home for lunch. Abbey had baked and decorated a heart shaped cake for Grandma so that was our dessert along with ice cream. Abbey has an interesting app on her iPad. She played duets with it on the piano! We relaxed in the living-room and then they headed back to get home before dark. It's been cloudy and windy all day with snow flurries at times.

Ashley with her medal, flower and balloon
(She's in the grey dress) |
Ashley took part in a skating event in Milestone so they weren't able to come this way today. Kirk's had a busy weekend too as they are getting ready for a trip to California. They will be spending time in Palm Springs and San Diego. Greg and Laurel's plan to spend a couple days in Edmonton during the school break.
I have been blessed with many birthday greetings - by mail, e-cards, on Facebook, texts, phone calls, Facetime and "real" visits. I have had "Happy Birthday" sung to me several times, once in Norwegian! Thanks to all of you for making my day extra special.

My birthday/Valentines plant (Anthurium) and book from Clare's
(How-to-tips to successfully grow a farm business)
The runner was a gift from Sandra.
So now I'm going to have a cup of tea and study my new book! I'll be listening to the music of Reed Miller's saxophone, the Tenors and the Howard Johnson family on my Bose. It is wonderful to still listen to Howard's lovely tenor voice recorded for us by the Daae's. |
