Day of Firsts

The Johnson Family, September 27, 2003

I'm thinking today of Todd and Kristy, a day of "firsts" for them.  First of all,  Happy Ninth Anniversary as you celebrate this day in Kristiansund and Kristiansand!  Yes, they are spending this anniversary apart as Todd left yesterday for a course with his work.  He flew from Kristiansund on the west coast of Norway to Kristiansand in the south.  When we address a letter to them, it is helpful to put an N after their city to be sure that it gets to the right one.  With just one letter difference, I'm sure there are mixups.  That's where postal codes are helpful!  There are two parcels on their way to Nora and I trust that they will reach her in Kristiansund.  Here's the latest pictures of little Nora.
"Is Dad sleeping yet?"

Ready for action!

Today is a special day for Nora too, or more so for her Ledene grandparents.  They are flying to Kristiansund and will be meeting their granddaughter, (and first grandchild), for the very first time!  It brings back memories of meeting our first grandchild, Dawson David Diekrager , for the very first time.  We didn't have to cross an ocean though, just a drive to the General Hospital in Regina on a winter day,

Yesterday I had a first as well, my first ride on Clare's combine in a soybean crop.  There is an extra seat beside the operator's so I rode in comfort, even with a seatbelt!  The header almost shaves the ground so it leaves the field very bare looking.  The field that he had just finished was invaded by hawks!  I wonder if they like soybeans or if they were finding lots of mice.  There must have been hundreds of them scattered all over the field.  I didn't get a picture of them!

(not much stubble left here!)

This isn't the first time that I've written my Wednesday blog on Thursday so you won't be too surprised that I'm late again!  I was having computer problems last night and was down to dial up speed on xplornet.  It's back up this morning so I can do my post ..... and play Scrabble again.  Thank you to my Scrabble pals.  It's fun to check out the game on Facebook and see that it's my move.  I had my seventh Bingo this morning, another first!  When you use up all seven letters in one word, that's called a Bingo.  My word today was "loonies".

I'm going to Estevan this morning to have the lab work for my yearly medical done so no breakfast for me this morning.  Clare left early for Weyburn but he'll be back after lunch to resume his soybean harvest.  Have a good day and enjoy these lovely fall days.  And Helga and Dan, give little Nora some loving from this Grandma too!  I look forward to meeting her in December, after their holiday in Mexico with the Ledene family.
