Friday Feature - No birthdays, no anniversaries, just us!

I thought it was time to just do "an ordinary blog" as I've done a lot of special ones lately.  They are fun to do and there will be another one on the 14th for our niece Heather.

It's a stormy day out there so I don't think we'll leave the house today.  No travel is advised in much of this corner.  I see that the forecast for Ambrose area has a blizzard warning until this evening.  I wonder if Kash will make it to the farm from the Port of Torquay.  It's only four miles but this winter it doesn't take much snow and wind to block the roads.

We've had a busy week.  Last Saturday we went to Milestone to watch Eric's 9:00 hockey game, which they won.  Then we went to the Diekrager farm, had lunch and Howard went to Regina with Laurel and Dawson to see his hockey game.  I stayed home with Ashley and we had a fun afternoon.  She likes doing a big ABC floor puzzle and is getting very good at it.  She was happy to get a birthday present from Abbey - a cute Sesame Street basket with lots of goodies in it, including a cute short set.  I hope we get some summer weather eventually!

When Howard got back from Regina we headed for Weyburn as snow was in the forecast.  We got to see Clare's team curl in the evening and the team was back on the ice on Sunday afternoon.  They won the first game but lost the C event final so had to settle for second.

On Monday we went to Torquay for quilting day at Trinity.  We finished the 99th quilt that day so will reach the hundred mark next week.  We won't be going down next Monday as Howard has an appointment at 1:00 and Abbey is singing in the music festival at 3:00.  Laurel and Ashley plan to come and hear her sing too.

On Tuesdays Howard goes to a Respite Day at the Weyburn Special Care Home.  He's there from 9:30 until 4:00, a good day for both of us.  They do exercises, take part in activities, have coffee morning and afternoon and a hot meal at noon.  There are beds available for afternoon naps but he doesn't usually have one.  It was Shrove Tuesday so we went to the pancake and sausage supper at Zion Lutheran, then to Stoughton with Clare to watch Carter's hockey game.  It was such an exciting game and ended tied at 6.  Since it was a playoff game the tie had to be broken and Lampman ended up losing it.  They are supposed to play the second game tonight in Lampman but that might be changed the way the weather is acting today.

On Wednesday evening we went to the Ash Wednesday service at Zion.  Coffee and goodies were served afterwards.  I met a lady who lived in the Jeffrey house many years ago.  She had the upstairs.  There was no running water or bathroom up there so she made many trips up and down the stairs.  I invited her to come for a visit someday.

Last night we had Mitch and Donna Marcotte over for coffee and cake.  They moved here from Torquay a few years ago.  Mitch had a seed cleaning plant so Howard had lots of good visits with Mitch over a cup of hot chocolate.  Donna works in the library here in town so we see her quite often.

Today was a good day to have leftover hamburger soup for dinner.  I finished tying a Trinity quilt and cut out a few more blocks for Todd's tee shirt quilt.  I'm going to alternate white and colored ones.  I had to make 12 inch blocks as many of the designs are at least that size.

Here's a picture of the quilt I tied.  I had sewed the blocks together for this one too so maybe I'll have to buy it now that it's finished.

We just had a phone visit with Todd.  They leave for Canada on April 2, coming via Philadelphia so Todd can take in a Flyers hockey game.  They have always been his favorite NHL team so this is a chance for him to see them live.  I don't suppose Kristy is as excited about it as he is but she's a good sport so will make the best of it.  They will arrive in Regina on April 6.  On the 7th, Norway will play Canada in the Men's World curling championship in Regina.  I hope they can take that in too but I wonder who they will cheer for!

A year ago we were busy planning our trip to Norway.  We left on March 17 and returned April 13.  I had to check my blog from last year as I wasn't sure of the dates.

Today I am thinking of my cousin, Vern Erickson, who was born on March 11, 1936.  Today he would have been 75.  Sadly he died of a heart attack at the young age of 53 in November of 1979.  I always remember the year that he died as we were coming back from his funeral in Frontier when the Riders won the Grey Cup.  We have precious memories of this special cousin with his ready smile and toothpick in his mouth.  Blessed be his memory.
