Happy Valentines Day!

We enjoyed a wonderful Sunday with our seven grandkids and their parents here for a joint birthday/valentine celebration.  This morning we went to the 10 o'clock service at Zion with Jodi and Abbey. (Clare was on the last leg of the trip home from Las Vegas). As we left the sanctuary, Abbey's Sunday School class presented each person with a valentine cookie that they had made.

Kirk's were the first to arrive after we got home, soon followed by Laurel's.  The cousins were excited to see each other and the house that Grandma and Grandpa are living in for three months.  Lindsay said, "You could get lost in this house!"  They explored it from the upstairs to "the Wood Shed".  We had pancakes for lunch with lots of other treats: a lovely fruit tray, sausages, bacon, strawberries and whipped cream, crackers with cream cheese and roasted red pepper relish, a delicious Amish loaf.  Later we enjoyed a strawberry blizzard DQ cake.  Well, some of us did.  The kids preferred dilly bars and ice cream sandwiches so it's a good thing Grandma bought a bag of those too!

Abbey had to leave for her dance theatre for an hour.  When she got back she was thrilled to see that her dad had arrived home after being gone for almost ten days. He got a very loving welcome.  Clare had stopped in Torquay and joined a few fellows up on the roof at Trinity shovelling off snow.  A flat roof is not good when there's a lot of snow.

The boys had brought their hockey mini sticks along, planning to play inside.  But the driveway was fairly icy so they went at their hockey outside instead.  They ended up soaked and had to wrap up in shawls around the fireplace while their clothes tumbled around in the dryer.

Laurel brought heart shaped cookies, icing and sprinkles so the girls had fun decorating those after lunch.  Everyone went home with cookies too.

It has been a very windy day!  We hope it lets up overnight as we would like to go to Torquay tomorrow for David Halvorson's funeral service at 2:00.  Don Vinge called us from Regina this morning so we hope to see him on Monday or Tuesday.

Now it is Monday and Valentines Day is almost over.  We had a good trip to Torquay and it was a treat to drive on ice free roads!  We stopped in town to get a bag of mail then went on to Ambrose to pick up another bag and several parcels.  It's been like Christmas tonight, going through all the mail, even a few late Christmas greetings. I have a weakness for magazines and there were several of those in the bag too so tonight was "reading night".  We didn't even turn the TV on so don't know what we missed, if anything.

There was a good turnout for David's funeral.  It was special to have his three granddaughters take part in the service, reading the eulogy and the lessons.  The four great grandchildren were present too.  Some people hesitate to bring children to a funeral but I think it's the right thing to do.  As always, Pastor Cicely had a very fitting message.  I helped serve and wash dishes after.  It was good to be back with our ladies group.  Today would have been quilting day but we'll carry on next Monday and I hope to be there, weather and roads permitting.

Laurel sent me two pictures that she had taken yesterday.  How many of you have had "Happy Birthday" sung to you by a granddaughter standing on her head?  Well, Lindsay is a pro at it, as you can see by this picture.

The next picture is of the seven grandchildren having juice, cookies and fruit in the nook.

Now we are looking forward to the next family gathering in April.  For the first time in eight years, Todd will be in Canada on April 15 to celebrate his birthday.  Kristy and Todd love planning parties so it will be a fun one.

Tomorrow afternoon Howard's cousin, Don Vinge, will be dropping by so we look forward to a visit with him.
