I was busy making meatloaf for supper last Saturday when Sandra called telling me that our Aunt Ruth passed away that afternoon. She has been in Shaunavon Nursing Home and in poor health for quite awhile, but still one is never ready to part with a loved one.
Aunt Ruth was 89 last October 13. I had done a special blog to honour her on her birthday. I wanted to do something now in her memory so have set up a new blog at ruthgeving.blogspot.com. It is open for others to share their memories of Aunt Ruth. Few of her nieces and nephews will be able to attend the funeral service tomorrow at 2:00 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Frontier. The blog will give us a chance to come together and share our memories of her, a eulogy of sorts. I am hoping that many will share pictures and memories as we mourn the loss of our youngest aunt. Her sister, Aunt Helma Parkins, is now the only surviving member of the Hans and Bertha Haaland family. She is 96 and resides in a nursing home at Innisfail, Alberta. Her daughter, Rosalie Dallas, lives on a farm nearby.
Howard and I will not be traveling to Frontier. Roads are quite icy in this area and I am a "fair weather driver". We will be there in our thoughts and prayers.
Aunt Ruth lost both her husband Oscar and her son Stephen within six weeks of each other. Oscar died just before Christmas in 1991 and Stephen passed away on my 50th birthday, February 10, 1992. Oscar's birthday was January 23 and Ruth passed away just a few hours before that date. The day she died was our grandson Dawson's tenth birthday so I will always remember that date.
I will share some memories later today on ruthgeving.blogspot.com
We enjoyed an overnight trip to the farm on Sunday afternoon with Clare. He wanted to go down and move some snow and he did lots of that! I neglected to take pictures but I'm sure the piles will be there on our next trip!
I ground some wheat and made a batch of flatbread to take back with us. I also gathered up quite a few things to bring back to Weyburn, including my address book. Now I don't have that excuse for not getting our yearly letter in the mail. It will happen!
I had hoped to get to quilting on Monday, but that didn't happen. We stopped by the church on our way through town so I took three quilts back with me to tie. I started on one this morning. The kitchen nook is an ideal spot, a long wooden table with benches on each side, and a TV at one end. I was watching 100 Huntley as I stitched.
It's a nice sunny day so time to go for a walk before lunch.
