Happy Birthday, Kris!

Two special people in our family have birthdays this weekend so I am doing a blog for each of you.

Our nephew Kris Howard Johnson was born on January 29, 1976 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Howard, Laurel and I flew down to meet him that April when he was almost three months old.  Clare and Kirk stayed behind with our good friends, Phyllis and Bob Hurren.

We were glad when Ardis and Kris moved to Edmonton so we were able to see them more often. ( I need to buy a good scanner so I can put many of my older pictures on the computer.) Kris was able to spend some time with his Grandpa Horace Johnson at his house in Torquay before he passed away in 1981 at the age of 80.

On July 8, 2000 we were thrilled to attend the wedding service for Kris and Stacy Lynn LeBlanc in Edmonton and the wonderful reception that followed.  Ardis even arranged for us to stay at the Howard Johnson hotel!  Greg and Laurel provided the transportation so that was great too.  Stacy was also born in Nova Scotia and God brought them together in Edmonton!

Kris went back to school and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta.  He  is very talented in art but right now doesn't have much time to spend on that. He is busy working on renovating the basement in their home.  Ava is in kindergarten so he looks after her when she is home from her half days at school.    We were very impressed with the sketch that he drew of Maureen Vinge, which was used on the front of the bulletin for her memorial service.

Stacy works full time as a teacher/guidance counsellor so Kris is a very supportive husband.  Next year will be somewhat easier when Ava is in school full time.  It is great that he can spend quality time with her, as he did with Samuel, in these important days in her life.  No job is more important!  Ardis gives him a hand when she can but is very busy with her job as a tutor to students needing extra help.  She goes to their homes so has found this winter very challenging for city driving!

We were thrilled that Kris, Samuel and Ava along with Ardis were able to join us for Howard's 75th birthday celebration on August 8 of 2010. We also celebrated Ardis' 70th. Kris read the psalm for the day at the service at Salem Lutheran Church where his great grandparents, Ben and Gina Johnson, were among the charter members in 1906.

It is great to have you in our family, Kris and we look forward to making more memories with you, Stacy, Samuel and Ava.  Hope you have had a great birthday weekend as you celebrate your 35th birthday.  We love you very much.
