On Saturday it was Carl's birthday so here we have Abbey, Lindsay, Jamie, Carter and his friend Bryson working on the birthday cake. Abbey brought a cake mix and can of icing. The girls mixed up the cake with Jamie getting to lick the beaters. Abbey and Lindsay did a great job of icing it and they all took turns with the sprinkles. We all enjoyed the final product!
It was a fun Saturday with the five kids around to liven things up. Climbing trees was a challenge and here we have Carter way up high! Lindsay is quite a climber too.
They also put up the volleyball net and had fun tossing the ball back and forth.
Carter was disappointed that he didn't get to ride in the combine but I'm sure he'll get a turn next trip to the farm.
We made two trips to Estevan this week. On Tuesday we brought a load of "stuff" to the Alliance Church for the Pro Life sale and made a quick trip to Lampman to deliver baking to the Freitag's and had a visit at Kirk's. We didn't get to see him as he was checking out some golf courses in North Dakota.
On Wednesday morning we went to the memorial service for Ernie Marcotte at Trinity Lutheran in Estevan. We enjoyed being part of the choir that sang a benediction at the close of the service. We were so impressed with Lois Dynna's two solos - Just a Closer Walk With Thee and Face to Face. Her cousin, Loretta Hanson, played the piano. These two should be recording! I had taught Ernie's "baby", Beverly, in grade one so it was good to give her a hug.
In the afternoon we went to the rummage sale and of course had to bring a few things home - a set of seven wrestlers for the boys, an 18 piece set of blue and gray Corelle for $5, an old black "barn lantern" for $5, a Scrabble game for $1, three like new long sleeved shirts for Howard at $1 each, and a pair of new wool pants for him for $1. Rummage sales are the place to shop!!
At three thirty we were at St. Joseph's Care Home with the Torquay Grannies to provide music for their monthly birthday party. Two grandpas, Bob Hurren and Howard, also joined us so they sang a duet and also joined in on a mixed quartette and some group singing. It was good to be singing quartettes again so we'll have to keep that up. After the program the four of us went to Houston Pizza for supper. Wednesday night is a good night as it was 10% off senior meal prices and we even got free dessert! It was a great way to end a full day. We got some groceries at the Co-op and were off for home.
It was good to get a start on combining this week with some lentils and flax done. There was rain during the night and more forecast for tonight so there may be a bit of a lull before they get back at it again.
I got a new sewing machine last week through Amazon.com but all I've done with it so far is take it out of the box and look over the instruction book. It's a Janome 7330 Magnolia for any of you who are up on machines. It's supposed to be a "work horse" so that's sounds good for making LWR quilt tops! I'm hoping to try it out this week so I'll have a report next blog.
Trinity church council and Hamar council met after service today to discuss a possible Torquay/Bromhead/Midale parish. Midale is vacant as their pastor recently moved to Manitoba. It would be a six month trial period with a congregational meeting scheduled for Torquay next Sunday after service. Change is difficult, especially for us "old folks" but we do want to keep our congregation going so will have to be prepared to make some changes.
That about sums up this past week for us. It's hard to believe that September arrives in just three days. Where did the summer go??
