Canning peaches!

Compared to last week, this one has been quite uneventful. The cases of Elberta peaches from Ekness Supervalue in Crosby have ripened. I canned 35 quarts, made some peach pies and we have enjoyed peaches and cream or ice cream for dessert every day.

We went to Weyburn on Thursday with Clare. Laurel had taken the kids there to swim with Abbey. We went with Laurel to the Diekrager farm and drove our pickup home. Todd and Kristy had used it when they were home. It's handy to have two vehicles.

I need the pickup to bring items to the Pro-Life rummage sale in Estevan. Our office is full of boxes and bags of things to donate. It was a good chance to get rid of things that are no longer being used and I was in the mood to do it! The problem is that I'd like to take in the sale on Wednesday but will have to restrain myself from bringing more "stuff" into our house! I have been trying to get rid of clutter after getting rid of three big items last week - a deepfreeze, a fridge and a laundry tub!

I joined Ancestry.com for this year and this week I got in touch with three relatives on the Munter side. It was exciting to connect with Susan (Munter) Moss, Eric Woll and Joyce Pederson. I remember being at Susan's home, (Russell Munters in Kalispell) when we went on camping trips to Glacier National Park. We went to visit Dad's great uncle, David Munter, who was a sister to his Grandma Stenson. Eric Woll emailed pictures that were taken on the Stenson farm in the early thirties when Mathilda's two brothers and sister visited from the US. The names of people in the picture were printed on the back and I'm sure it's my mother's neat printing. She may have done that when visiting with the Munters in Kalispell back in the 1950's.

Uncle Dave, as he was known to us, did so much to connect with family members. Thanks to him, we got to know the Ron and Lois Gilchrist family at Lohman, Montana. Myrna and I are the same age, just five days apart, and are still close "cousins". We are actually third cousins but most of all we are best friends. Ernie and Myrna spent July 1 with us this year. They winter in Yuma so some year we hope to visit them there. We always think of them on July 4 as we enjoyed spectacular fireworks with them in Pocatello, Idaho in 1994. They have since moved to Boise, Idaho to be close to their two sons, Mark, Craig and his wife Susan.

Last Saturday Trinity Lutheran ELW in Estevan hosted a breakfast meeting and invited several locals in the area to join them. There was a great turnout from Estevan, Weyburn, Midale, Lampman, North Portal, Torquay and Noonan, ND. We were inspired by Jan Park's talk. She teaches in a girl's school in Kuwait, returning to Estevan each summer. Kuwait is a safe place to live, as long as you follow their rules! She said there are no poor people in Kuwait. The girls at her school are driven to school, along with a maid to carry the girl's backpack from the car to the school door. Our Torquay Grannies were invited to sing. We always enjoy an opportunity to get together and make music.

Abbey attended worship service at Torquay with us this morning, making an attendance of 12. Church council will soon be meeting with Bishop Cindy Halmorson to make some decisions about the future of our congregation. Philip Risto did a great job of leading the service today, as did Inis Marcotte last Sunday. Inis shared the sad news of her brother-in-law Ernie Marcotte's passing yesterday in Estevan. Funeral arrangements hadn't been made yet.

I don't have any pictures to share this week. Maybe we'll get some harvest ones for next week. Clare had Jason Stepp swatch the lentils at home so they may be ready to combine later this week. Jodi was busy helping Clare get the combines ready this weekend. She will be out to drive one on the weekends. She starts back to school tomorrow and Abbey goes on Thursday.

I joined Net Flix last month so we are enjoying movie nights once a week or so. Last night we watch "Seabiscuit". It would have been a better movie is they had left out the swearing in it. It was a great story otherwise.

Well, not much else to share so will sign off for this week. The forecast is for showers tomorrow but the rest of the week sounds like good harvest weather. Have a great week!
