I am back for my once a week blog post. I'll start with today. The above picture shows the breakfast crew busy preparing French toast for Grandma, Shauna and Kirk. They had the table set and a delicious breakfast ready by 8 o'clock.
Here we are enjoying our special breakfast at the "new" dining room set that was given to Shauna from Ralph. Kirk is the photographer so missed being in the picture. Shauna and Kirk were spending the day getting ready for next week's garage sale at Louise and Ralph's house in Lampman. It will be put up for sale this summer.
After breakfast Abbey and I drove to Torquay where Jodi met us. Then she and Abbey went back to Weyburn to spend Mothers Day with Jodi's mom, Gaby Kot. I went to morning worship at Trinity and drove home after our coffee fellowship.
Yesterday Jodi and Abbey came down to the farm before lunch. Abbey and I went to Lampman to take in the dance recital at 1:00. Lindsay and Jamie took part in nine different dances so were busy changing costumes. The event went very smoothly and concluded with a grand finale done with the house lights off and black light reflecting the dancer's costumes. Lindsay is one of the girls in the pink striped shirts. I'll add more pictures from Shauna as she took many at the dress rehearsal on Friday evening.
Abbey and I enjoyed an overnight stay. Kirk was thrilled with the Boston vs Montreal hockey game as his Bruins pulled off a win, needing just one more to take that series. Kirk also found time to wash my Kiwi and to vacuum the inside. Thanks for that special Mothers Day gift of your time, Kirk!
Ashley would have enjoyed the dance recital too, but they had a special event to attend - a bridal shower for Dayle Diekrager at Lang. Ashley was happy to wear the special dress that came from the Hansen girls in Norway. Here she is with the bride to be.
A new use was found for china teacups - serve flower decorated cupcakes in them and use a spoon to eat the cupcakes!
Clare has been busy seeding this weekend and the forecast looks good for the next several days. Maybe I'll even get some garden in this week.
I am planning to go to Frontier on Friday to take in the Syttende Mai program on Saturday at the Senior Citizens Centre. There will be more Norsk baking there than anywhere in Norway I'm sure! Parades are the feature of the 17th of May celebrations there so hotdogs are the popular food item that day. In 2005 Howard and I arrived in Norway for our first visit just in time to attend the parade in Oslo the next day. It was part of a nine day bus trip that we took with Brekke tours and we enjoyed every part of it.
I am so thankful for all those precious memories that I have of our four trips to Norway and now two more without him - one with Sandra and one with Laurel. Howard left us two years ago on May 17th. I didn't feel up to going to Frontier last year for their event but feel ready this year. Perhaps Ashley will come with me and wear the "bunad" that Laurel bought for her in Norway. She loves to dance so maybe she can dance to some accordion music for the seniors.
Mothers Day is drawing to a close. It's a day of mixed emotions for many. I'm thinking especially of several family members and friends who are spending their first Mothers Day without your mother's presence - Shauna, Vickie, the daughters of Herborg Vinge - Carol, Elaine, Jeanette and Doris. It is soon thirty years since my mother left us at the age of 65. I still think of things I'd like to tell her or ask her but I am so thankful for all the precious memories I have to cherish. I am also thankful for the four mothers of my eight grandchildren - Laurel, Jodi, Shauna and Kristy. I think the task of raising children is more challenging now than it was when I was in that position. My prayers are with you!
Sandra just called so I had an update on their Victoria Quilts luncheon on Friday evening. She's sending a picture of the table setting that she supplied. Some year I'll have to go out for that.

It wasn't Mothers Day in Norway today as they celebrate mothers in February. But here's a picture of Nora and Todd walking with friends at Averøy this afternoon. Those yellow "flowers" look familiar don't they?
It's my turn to cook for the men tomorrow so I better get organized for that before I go to bed. I'll add two pictures from Clare that he just sent. Have a good week!
