OF THIS AND THAT

It is fun to get video clips of Nora from Norway!  Here's one of her trying to catch up to a shoelace of Kristy's!

It looks like you are getting a Friday post this week!  I just didn't settle down to the job until this morning.

I spent part of yesterday in Estevan getting new tires on Kiwi, my Ford Escape.  It's an all wheel drive and important that all tires match.  The front right one had worn treads and needed replacing.  The company doesn't make that particular tread any longer so it was necessary to put on four new ones.  I went with Good Year Wranglers.  Clare can use the two back tires on machinery so they didn't have to be recycled.  I've soon had this vehicle for two years and this is the first I've spent on it, other than fuel and oil changes so I'm not complaining.  I don't want tire trouble on the road!

I was invited to Linda and Wes' for lunch.  I should have taken a picture of my place setting - clear Iris and Herringbone dishes!  I told Linda that was a first as I've never been served on that special Depression glass pattern before.  It's a reminder to me to USE my special dishes too.  I have a pitcher in that pattern so I'll show you a picture of it so you will know what I am talking about!

Sandra will be using some of her special dishes this evening at the Victoria's Quilts fundraiser in Climax. It's an evening event with tables for six decorated by volunteers who provide the table cloth, dishes, cutlery, serviettes, and centrepiece.  There is a guest speaker, often an author, followed by dessert and coffee/tea plus silent and Loonie auctions.  Victoria's Quilts was started in Ottawa in 1999 (in the US the year before) as a ministry that donates quilts to cancer patients and facilities that serve cancer patients.  That first year 16 quilts were donated.  In 2012 that number grew to 5,571.( Lilah Daae received one of those quilts last year.)  Climax and Moosomin are the only two branches in Saskatchewan.  I'll post pictures of tables that Sandra has done in the past. Funds raised are used to purchase cotton batts for filler and cotton flannel for backing the tops that are made and donated to the group.  It also covers shipping costs for quilts.

Looking out the office window this morning, the only snow to be seen is mostly in the trees north of the house.  The past week or so has seen water running through all the coulees and creeks and running over the roads in places for a short time.  Long Creek is quite high, but it doesn't look like it will go over the road, unless a lot of water comes rushing in from the north.  It's fun to hear the birds singing in the trees and to see the robins back.  I haven't heard any crows yet!

I have some signs of spring in the yard too and I'll leave you with these two pictures. Now I better go out and do some raking on the lawn!
