Lampman Luncheon

Guests at our table
I'm a week behind with my blog post so better catch up tonight!  I had a full day, with morning worship this morning, then a trip to Weyburn.  The hymns this morning were all peppy ones so I decided to bring my accordion and play that along with Vickie on the piano.  I should try and do that once a month, just for a change from organ/piano.

After coffee and visiting, I headed for Weyburn as Abbey's dance recital was at two o'clock at the Junior High School.  I stopped at Clare's and rode with him as parking spots are at a premium with 500 or so people in attendance.  There were fifty items on the program but they moved like clockwork with a short intermission in the middle.  Abbey was in four dances, each with a different costume.  I'll post a "dance recital" blog when Lindsay, Jamie and Ashly have all had their programs!  We gathered at Clare and Jodi's for a barbecue supper so it was great to have a family get together at the end of the day.

Now back to last week's Library Luncheon in Lampman.  This may have been their last one so I was fortunate to have a seat at a table in the Elks Hall.  Twelve tables are set up with six ladies seated at each one.    Each table has its own hostess, or sometimes two people co-host.  The hostess provides the table setting, table cloth, cutlery, serviettes, flowers and a small gift for each guest.  They also provide the lunch for their table - two salads, beverage, and dessert.  This year all the tables had cheese biscuits.
Doors open at 11:30 and the meal is served at 12.  That gives guests time to have a look at all the tables.  Here are pictures of all twelve.  I think a couple are a bit blurry so I must have moved the camera a bit.

I was seated at this nautical table so I'll show you a few more pictures of this one.

After lunch, we enjoyed speeches by three 4-H members followed by the guest speaker, Melanie Schnell, from Regina.  She has connections with Torquay as her mother, Kathy Schnell, is the daughter of the late Joe and Nympha Phillips.  I enjoyed Melanie's talk about her experiences in Sudan, where she went to do research for her first novel, "While the Sun is Above Us".  It is the story of two women who are brought together in this war torn country.  Adut has been held as a slave for eight years.  Sandra is a Canadian aid worker fleeing her life in Canada.  It is fiction, but based on events that have happened to women who have been taken as slaves in time of civil war in Sudan, so sad.

There were door prizes, but I wasn't one of the lucky ones.  I did buy an autographed copy of Melanie's book so I'm going to read more of than when I finish this post!

I had planned to go home after the luncheon, but the road report wasn't good - drifting snow sticking to the road west of Lampman.  It was much improved on Sunday afternoon.  The fields were mostly white  when I drove home a week ago.  After a few days of warm temperatures, that has changed.  I was surprised to see Long Creek overflowing its banks when I drove uptown this morning and relieved that it wasn't over the road when I came home this evening!  Cooler weather for the next few days should slow the melt and hopefully keep the creek in its place!  (There's even that snow word in the forecast!!)

I must congratulate Dan and Helga Ledene on their first grandson who arrived on April 26 to Danielle and Danny Thomas of Edmonton.  Todd and Kristy are thrilled with their new nephew and cousin for Nora.  His name is Ajay Daniel George Thomas.

I just got an email with pictures of Abbey and the cousins this afternoon so I'll leave you with these.
