REMEMBRANCE DAY 2012

A painting on the side of a building in Lacombe, AB
(the poppies and the grass are real!)

I just watched the Remembrance Day services from Ottawa, something that Howard and I generally did every year.  It's a cold blustery day here in SK.  I walked out to the driveway yesterday and decided that the snow was too deep to try getting through with my Escape.  I didn't want to end up getting stuck and having to get help to get out so decided not to venture out to morning service.  It was my turn to make coffee and provide something to go with it.  I left a can of flatbread in the church kitchen on Wednesday and asked Madeline Krauss to make the coffee for me.  It's a good thing it's Pastor Danny's day to have the Torquay service so they don't need to go to Estevan.

Today is Fathers Day in Norway so this is a first for Todd.  We couldn't connect on Facetime so I didn't get to see little Nora this time but had a good visit with Todd.  Here's a picture of her taken the other day when she went out in her carriage.  She loves to go for those carriage rides.  She has to wear the brace for another month.  Bath time is fun for her when she is free to move her legs.

Two month old Nora ready to go out.

I am working on a new address book so that's one of my preparations for Christmas.  I got as far as the D's tonight so have a ways to go yet.  I made two batches of flatbread yesterday. I have orders for quite a few so will start earlier this year.  Tomorrow I want to make rolled out oatmeal cookies with date filling.  I'll leave some plain for the grandkids who prefer them like that!  All this snow helps to put me in a baking mood.

I even did some house cleaning last week!  I treated the oak cupboard fronts to a treatment with lemon oil so they almost look like new again.  The oil also works well on the cedar walls so refreshed some of those too. It's time that I tackled some of these jobs that I haven't felt up to doing for a while.

Clare's and Kirk's are in Minot so are making good use of the long weekend with no school tomorrow. Laurel's spent last night in a hotel in Regina after Dawson's hockey game in the city.  They enjoyed the pool until it closed at ten.

For those of you who aren't on Facebook, here's a picture of the deck that I took this afternoon.  I had to dig through the snow to find the cat's water dish!  The snow is even higher on top of the table after light snow and wind this afternoon.  I guess it sifts down off the roof too.

I'm not planning on going very far this week, perhaps to Estevan later in the week.  I need a haircut and another visit to the lawyer's office for estate business.  Have a good week!
