Grey Cup Sunday

A glorious sunrise at the Diegrager farm, Milestone
(Ashley noticed it the other morning so Laurel grabbed the camera
and snapped this picture from the front door)

This is the first time that I have watched the Grey Cup game by myself.  Howard and I were not football fans as neither one of us understood the game.  But we always watched it.  After all, isn't that a Canadian tradition?  The rest of our family are all football fans so we had to try and keep up with it enough to carry on a conversation.

I was interested in seeing the half time show as Canada's Justin Bieber was the feature attraction.  I was watching into the second quarter and the next thing I knew the game was into the third quarter.  I had slept right through the half time show!  Now the game is over and Toronto has won the hundredth Grey Cup game.  It was fitting that they should win it as that's where the game was played today. A Toronto team also won the first game.  Calgary just couldn't get ahead on the score sheet today.  It's a good thing today's game wasn't being played in SK as it's minus 18ยบ C tonight.  Next year Regina hosts the game so we'll be needing warmer temperatures this time next November!

I had a very special week as I spent a night at Kirk's on Tuesday, Laurel's on Friday and Clare's on Saturday.  I also got to watch all three grandsons play hockey and all three teams won their games!  Eric played in Milestone at 6:30 on Friday and Dawson's team played at 8:00.  I drove to Weyburn on Friday afternoon and went to Milestone with Clare and Abbey.  Jodi was in Minot with two of her friends for Black Friday shopping.  This year they shopped until 4:00 a.m. instead of getting started at that time in the morning.  Wal Mart started their sales at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and some stores opened at ten and at midnight.  It's not my style of shopping but they had a great time and found lots of good deals.

On Saturday, Greg and Clare took Dawson, Eric and Abbey to Regina for a few hours at Agribition.  I stayed home with Laurel and Ashley.  Laurel tried out her new flour mill and had fresh whole wheat buns ready when the gang came home from the city.  Her pumpkin cheese cake was a big hit too!

I left Weyburn by 9:00 so I could be at Trinity for 10:30 service this morning.  There were 25 out this morning and we had a good visit over coffee and goodies (Thanks, Adele!) after the service.

I spent a quiet afternoon, actually got out the basket of sympathy cards and reread them all.  I'm still amazed at all the people from near and far who took time to send cards after Howard's passing.  The personal notes that many added with memories of Howard are so precious.  I'm compiling them so each of our family can have a copy.

Christmas will be another of those "firsts" without Howard.  Looking forward to Todd, Kristy and Nora's visit has certainly helped.  We are hoping to have family gatherings on the two weekends that they are here - Dec. 15 - 16, and Dec. 21 - 23.  I am down for serving coffee and goodies after morning worship on December 16 so am planning to have a Norsk lunch that day in the auditorium.  Come and join us and meet grandchild number eight - Nora Josephine Johnson.  She is enjoying a two week stay in Mexico these days.

Clare had some pictures of Dawson and Eric riding a mechanical bull at Agribition, but I'll have to add them later.

I just talked to Sandra after her lefse baking weekend.  She has made 24 batches and has another 8 ready to do tomorrow!  I'm tired just thinking about it.  I guess it helps to be ten years younger.  She rolls and keeps up to two grills by herself, another amazing feat.

Well, it's bedtime so this will be it tonight.  Clare plans to come out tomorrow so I'll have someone to cook for besides myself.  I was glad to find a bowl of chili in the freezer for my supper tonight.  I think I'll make a batch of stew tomorrow so I'll have leftovers for myself too.  Have a good week.  A month from today is Christmas Day so the count down is on with next Sunday being the first Sunday in Advent.
