WEDNESDAY WORDS

I've decided to have a weekly blog on Wednesdays, the "hump day" of the week.  I'll share a variety of things, no special theme.

This Wednesday is a special one as it's my sister Sandra's birthday.  That means that I have done birthday and anniversary blogs for a year as I started with hers last year.  I'll still include those special days on my blog, but I won't do a lot of pictures or write ups about them.  That said, have a very Happy Birthday, Sis!

Her birthday gave me the idea for today's "words".  Sandra's daughter, Mareena, introduced us to a fascinating website.  You can find it at pintrest.com  It's basically a place for sharing ideas.  If you like an idea that you see there you can "pin it" to a "board".  You can have as many boards as you want, each one  collecting ideas about a certain topic.  As an example - Fall, Christmas, Recipes, Crafts.  The topics are limited only by your imagination.  You have to register in order to pin ideas, then you are on your way to collecting!  I started out with just one board called Good Ideas but I need to sort them into more categories to make it easier to find the one I want to try.

Sandra sent me two pictures of the scarves that she made from t-shirts.  The idea, along with instructions, came from pintrest.  It must be the latest "fad" in upcycling!  You can use t-shirts that have designs or even stains on them!  Some dye white t-shirts to make the colour that they want.

There's no point in collecting these ideas if you don't use them so I'm going to leave this blog and go and make a scarf for myself.  See you later!

Well, I'm back with my new scarf, made from a green t-shirt that Howard hasn't worn for a long time.  I don't think he'll miss it!  Mine was made by laying the t-shirt out flat, cutting the hem off the bottom, then cutting strips 3/4" wide across the shirt from one fold to the other side of the shirt. A rotary cutter and board works well for this. You can do this up to where the sleeves begin as you want each strip to be in one piece.  When you have enough strips, put one hand in each strip end and stretch it out.  The strips will curl up when they are stretched out and there you have it.  Gather up the strips and put them around your neck.  I used a large t-shirt so I was able to loop it around my neck twice for my scarf or necklace, whatever you want to call it.  There are good directions and pictures that explain it better on pintrest. When you get to that site there is a search box on the left side of the page.  Just type in t-shirt scarf and you will see ideas of all sorts for this project. You can also see what others have pinned by typing their name in the search box.  Sandra Sanford has found lots of interesting ideas!  Have fun.  And just a warning, pintrest can be very addictive!

My "new" t-shirt scarf (necklace?)
Our circles are presenting programs and visiting at two places in Estevan today.  We'll be at the Regional Nursing Home at 3:00, have supper together at Houston  Pizza and then go to Creighton Lodge at 6:30 for a program there.  I'm going in this morning to visit Howard before the programs.  We are bringing cookies to Creighton Lodge so I better go and make some fresh gingers!  Bye for now.
