St. Joseph's Special Care Home celebrated Senior's Week with music and goodies at their Harvest Tea on Friday. The Red Hat Ladies entertained us with music at 11:00 a.m. followed by soup, sandwiches and dainties served at noon. The invitation stated that old fashioned dress was not required but was more than welcome. Staff outfits were provided by Motherwell Homestead in co-operation with Parks Canada.
This gave me a chance to wear a black wool suit that Howard's great aunt Bertha (Johnson) had given to her niece, Aunt Viola, many years ago. Viola passed it on to me a few years ago. I added Aunt Helma (Johnson) Vinge's good black shoes and a hat whose origin I've forgotten. It had a black ribbon so matched the suit. I also wore a flower pin that mom had crocheted around many years ago. My white blouse from Mark's Work Wearhouse was fairly new but served the purpose. I had my camera along so here are a few pictures taken of that event.

On Saturday, Kirk, Carter and Jamie came to the farm for the day. Carter was so anxious to help Clare harvest the flax crop. They tried it, but the sample tested tough so that will have to wait for a frost or until the weeds dry up a bit more. Carter ended up helping Clare clean some dusty mustard out of the bottom of the grain cart. He was regretting that he had worn "name brand clothes" to the farm that day! He was expecting to spend the day in the air conditioned combine cab.
Jamie entertained Grandma. We played house, did sewing cards and read "The Mitten" twice. Then she rolled all the ginger cookies in sugar and put them on pans. We had a busy afternoon!
After a steak supper they all headed home and it was "back to two".
We made it to Trinity for 9:00 service on Sunday morning and were on time, only because Pastor Bob was late! We enjoyed coffee fellowship following the service. A table full of us continued the visit at the Torquay Cafe where we had Chinese food at noon.
Then we went back to the farm for a relaxing afternoon. Howard watched one of the many ball games on TV and also had a nap in his chair while I did some reading and spent time on the computer.
Soon it was time for supper and then the drive back to Estevan. Howard had a good weekend at home, no falls this time either so that was good. I made a quick visit to Aunt Viola's room with a can of flatbread for her. She was saddened by the news that her sister-in-law, Edna, passed away this weekend. She is hoping that Hartley and Louise will be able to go to the funeral. They are already in BC as their son Jeremy was married to Robyn in Fernie on Saturday.
I ended up driving home in the dark, which I don't care for any more. But it was a safe trip with a quick shower of rain east of Torquay. I was home by eight. Now that I've caught up on my blog, I'm off to bed. Have a great week! It sounds like this lovely weather will stay, at least until Friday.
