| Harvesting flax, October 20, 2011 |
On Friday night I spent the first night at my "winter home" in Estevan. I wasn't lonesome either as Laurel, Dawson, Eric and Ashley joined me. Kirk, Shauna, Carter, Lindsay and Jamie joined us for our supper of hamburger soup and buns with Timbits and ice cream for dessert. The grandkids had a great time exploring the house and ended up playing hide and go seek in the backyard after dark. Jamie and Ashley invited Grandma to play house so we went downstairs and did that for awhile. We also played a few tunes on the piano down there and sang along to "Jesus Loves Me", "Mary Had a Little Lamb", "ABC" and other such favourites. The boys played a bit of pool and watched some of the Rider game on TV. Poor little Ashley ended up with the stomach flu later in the evening so I hope the rest of the kids (and adults!) don't end up with it too. Fortunately, it was short lived and she was fine on the drive home to Milestone the next day.
I went home on Saturday afternoon after visiting with Howard for a while. He wasn't feeling great that day, didn't get up for breakfast but ate a good lunch at noon. Then he went back to bed and I headed for home. I stopped in Torquay to do some cleaning at the church. Abbey and Jodi had just gotten home from a quick trip to Williston when I got to the farm. Clare was combining the last of the flax crop so that job is done for this year. He didn't even take the other combine (Jodi's) out this fall so had only one to clean up and put away for the winter. They stopped at the CanAm for supper on their way back to Weyburn.
I was on lunch duty this morning after our church service. There were ginger cookies in the freezer and a loaf of banana bread so I didn't have to do any baking. The attendance was 25, which is good for our present congregation.
On the way home I drove past men out in the fields doing seismograph work, a crew of guys working at the oil well site west of the Mossing farm, and could see a drilling rig working just west and south of Salem Church. The landscape in the area has certainly changed this past year. There's so much more traffic in the area too. The RM has done a good job of repairing roads damaged by flood waters this spring. They have been spreading gravel in places and have cut the grass in the ditches recently. Our country roads will be ready for winter.
Kirk and the kids were in visiting Howard this afternoon. Todd had called him from Kristiansund earlier. I'm so glad our four are faithful in visiting by phone or in person, especially when I can't be there every day. That is the main reason for me to house sit in Estevan this winter, so I can spend more time with Howard. To be blessed with a wonderful house with south facing windows, an organ and a piano plus lots of music and books is a real haven for me! (Do you think I'll get any sewing done this winter?)
I'm planning to drive out to Torquay for quilting days every Monday starting in January, but that will depend on the kind of winter we have. It would be nice to find someone to house sit at the farm but we'll leave that in God's hands.
On Wednesday at 3:30 our accordion group is playing at St. Joesph's and at 6:30 on Thursday evening we'll be at Creighton Lodge. I'm glad that I joined this group!
That's it until Wednesday's Words. I'll close with a picture of my sister's latest creation - an idea from Pintrest.
