When I got home I put in some of the bedding plants that I bought yesterday - petunias, portulaca and spikes in the old washtubs on either side of the garage door, marigolds around the transformer, and more petunias in front of the perennial flowerbed on the south side of the house. I also put in some overgrown portulaca plants just west of the driveway. They thrive where it's hot and dry so that place should suit them fine. I still have two begonia plants but want to move the planter to a new place before I do that.
I spent Saturday afternoon in Estevan. I hadn't been at Howard's very long when there was a knock on the door and in walked his cousin, Dave Bergum, from Surrey, BC. Dave and Bea spend the winters in Palm Springs and had come up from there to celebrate the 99th birthday of Bea's mother, who resides at Estevan Regional Nursing Home. It was at Dave and Bea's home in Swift Current that Howard and I met on March 8, 1965. They were baptismal sponsors for Laurel on December 29, 1968. Dave was Howard's bestman at our wedding and also sang a solo. There have been lots of good connections over the years so it was great to have him drop in for a surprise visit.
A week ago Saturday I picked up Howard and we attended the Confirmation services for Carter in Lampman. There were 35 confirmands so each one was limited to ten guests. Here are some pictures that were taken after the service.

After a yummy BBQ supper at Kirk's, I dropped Howard off in Estevan and drove home in pouring rain. A little over a mile from home at the "Mossing coulee" I had to drive through water running over the road. That's the third time the water has been over the road there this spring so I'm hoping it's three times and out! The rain gauge showed 2.85 inches last weekend with another .8 inches later in the week.
The forecast for the rest of this week isn't great either. Ambrose North Dakota has a flood watch warning from 6 pm tonight through Tuesday evening. From one and a half to two inches of rain are possible for far north-west North Dakota, which hits us pretty closely as our farm is just over two miles north of the US border. I guess I'll stick close to home the next couple days! I picked up three dozen eggs at Ron and Gail's yesterday so some baking will be on the agenda.
