WINDUPS!

Milestone Skating Club presents "Trip to the Movies"

Many winter activities are coming to an end as the season also winds down this week with SPRING officially arriving on Saturday at 10:31pm CST.  Actually, we've had more springlike weather lately than winter. Fields are bare, grass is turning green, trees are budding and even the rhubarb is poking through the ground!

Hockey season is winding down too with playoffs over for most teams.  Five of our six grandsons play hockey. Bram plays soccer year round- indoors in winter, outdoors the rest of the year.  Here are pictures of the hockey players.

Dawson played with a AA Bantam team based in Balgonie, just east of Regina. The highlight of their season was a bus trip to Kamloops BC over the Christmas holidays where they took part in a hockey tournament.  Prairie Storm was the name of their team.

Carter played with the Lampman/Arcola Bantams.  There aren't enough players in either town to make a team so they combine to get enough players to have a team.  Practices and games alternate between the two towns.
Carter also was a ref for some of the younger aged teams in Lampman.

Eric played centre position with the Milestone PeeWees. Here he is in action in the blue uniform #19.

Two of Alan's grandsons were involved in the house hockey league in Calgary.  They took part in minor hockey week in January, listed as the largest hockey tournament in the world!  Here are their pictures:

Next year these two brothers will be in the same age group and hopefully on the same team!

Abbey has had a busy year of curling.  Last weekend their team took part in another bonspiel for ages 18 and under.  They found it to be more challenging than the 15 and under last weekend but had a good time with more curling experience.
A smooth delivery!

Lindsay was a helper at Lampman's skating carnival on Tuesday evening.  The theme was what you want to be when you grow up.  Here's Lindsay in her cousin Katie's nursing uniform.

Ashley enjoyed skating every Wednesday and took part in Milestone's ice carnival last Friday.  Here she is in her costume ready to skate to the music from "Austin Powers".

Lindsay, Jamie and Ashley are still taking dance so we'll feature them after their dance recitals later this spring.

Our Monday quilting sessions wound up this week too, a couple weeks earlier than usual as we met our quota of 100 quilts (actually made 112!) and are out of tops.  It was another great year of putting quilts together with lots of good visiting, coffee breaks and potluck lunches!  We had a couple new recruits this year, Rose and Olga, which really made a difference.  We can always use another set of hands so consider joining us next year.  Starting date is January 2, 2017!  Two ladies from Estevan came to visit on Monday.  Flora brought 25 baby afghans that she has knit or crocheted. Bridget has made six and Olga six. What a gift to add to our baby layettes for Lutheran World Relief or to send to a hospital in Chad, Africa for newborn babies there.  Your work is much appreciated!

I got my sewing area downstairs somewhat organized so maybe I'll get more sewing done in the "off season" than I usually do!  I needed some mauve fabric to add to a smaller top and found some yesterday among the "stash" at Trinity. I've been working on that today.  I'll have to strive like my friend, Tracey whose goal is to do some sewing every day! ( I think every week might be doable for me.)

With that I better get off the computer and finish my flatbread mix and get a batch made before supper.  See you in the spring!
