NOVEMBER 1

Halloween  in Norway
As we were getting ready to leave for morning worship at Trinity, there was a message on my ipad from Kristy.  She wanted to let us know that her Grandma Wanda Djordjevic passed away just after midnight. The first thing that went through my mind was what a suitable time to leave for her heavenly home - on All Saints Day. Kristy stated that her mom visited Wanda on Saturday and she had been in good spirits and they had a good last meeting together. She said the family is relieved that Grandma can now rest.  Wanda had been in a care home for a few years and at 92 was ready to go "home".  She will leave an empty spot in the life of her daughter Helga, Dan and family.  The four girls were blessed to have their grandma into adulthood and she was able to meet five great grandchildren.  Blessed be her memory. Her funeral service will be on Friday in Lethbridge.  That's the hard part for Kristy and Todd being an ocean away - they miss out on these family gatherings. Perhaps someone will be in touch with an ipad or iphone and they can be part of it that way.  Facetime is great for keeping in touch.

We attended the funeral on Wednesday in Estevan for friend and former neighbour, Bob Hurren.  Trinity was full and over flowing as friends, neighbours, coworkers and family came to mourn his death and celebrate his life of 79 years.  His two sons, Darren and Don, had such a fitting eulogy for their dad.  The grandchildren sang "Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days".  There was much visiting over lunch as Torquay and Estevan friends got to see each other again. Bob was a man of faith and that was made plain in the message and by his sons in their tribute.

The World Series could end tonight (Sunday) so Alan is glued to the TV.   He is hoping the Kansas City Royals can come out on the winning side this year.  Curling was also on this weekend so there were lots of games to choose from including hockey and football!

Well, I didn't get this finished on Sunday evening.  The World Series game kept us up until midnight!  Alan had predicted that the Royals would win in five games and that's what happened.  It was a thriller of a game for Kansas City.  They were down 2-0 when they came to bat at the top of the ninth inning so it looked like they'd be going back home for a sixth game.  Instead of a closing pitcher for the Mets, Harvey refused to leave the mound.  The first Royal player walked and the second got on base.  That caused a pitcher change but soon the score was tied!  So on to extra innings and after twelve innings the Royals won by a score of 7 - 2!  They are quite a come back team and deserve to win after narrowly missing out last year.  Congratulations to the Kansas City Royals.  The city will be celebrating tomorrow with a big parade, the first World Series win in thirty years.  Sandra's husband Merle has his Uncle Earl Sanford and several cousins in Kansas City so they have something to cheer about!

Evenings will be different around here with no ball games to watch!  But there are curling spiels coming up as well as football games and hockey.  The latter two are not favourites of mine!

I bought a pumpkin from Gail Blaney at the Flea Market in Yellow Grass last month.  Alan carved a face in it and we set it in front of the patio door on Saturday night.  Here he is.  Today I cooked it up and will make pies later this week.

Tomorrow morning we are off to Estevan for blood work and other lab work before our medicals on Nov. 17. So no breakfast in the morning or snacking tonight!  See you again next week.
