Yesterday was our one week anniversary so I baked Alan's
favourite, a Flapper pie. It likely didn't taste the same as the ones his mother made but he enjoyed it. Sandra was telling about friends of Mom and Dad's who married later in life, he for the first time and she a widow. They celebrated their wedding anniversary every month as they knew they wouldn't be having a big number of yearly anniversaries. That sounds like a good idea for us with both of us in our early seventies. The 14th of every month will be our day to celebrate.
We enjoyed watching the Tournament of Hearts ladies curling from Moose Jaw. We had front row seats in our living-room in front of the TV! Alan used to enjoy going to these events with his sisters and their hubbies but after his hip surgery three years ago he finds those hard seats are too much to sit through games of three or more hours.
Clare, Jodi and Abbey were at some of the curling games. They said that Team Canada and the Manitoba (Jennifer Jones) rink were so friendly after their game and have these pictures to show just that. Maybe we'll be watching Abbey in ladies curling competitions someday. Update: Abbey can be proud of this first picture with the skip of the new Team Canada as Team Manitoba won the final against Team Alberta tonight.
Tomorrow Alan and I are heading back to Bon Accord to clean out his mobile home and pack up the things he wants to bring here to the farm. He will rent a UHaul and I will follow back to the farm in Ruby, my red Ford Escape. The weather forecast sounds okay for the next week with milder temperatures but little moisture. It's good to have below zero temps when driving as then there's less chance of icy roads even if it snows. Someone has expressed interest in buying his mobile home and moving it to another lot. It would be great to sell it without having to go through real estate.
So this week of women's curling has come to an end. On Saturday the men's brier starts in Calgary so we'll have that to watch next week. I'm not getting many quilt tops done! I have one laid out on the floor for Lindsay but it won't be done by her birthday on Thursday as I'll be gone all this week. "A promise is a promise" as we heard in today's sermon from Pastor Danny so don't give up Lindsay, or Ashley who has a birthday next week.
We are bringing Ardis the Singer treadle sewing machine table that her mother used for many years. I also packed up some old readers from my collection as she is always looking for short stories to use in her tutoring. One of the books had LJ on the cover and once belonged to Leonard Johnson, Horace's brother who was shot in a gopher hunting accident at the age of 13. I am glad those readers will be read again.
It's time to pack my bags for the road trip and a few days at Bon Accord and in Edmonton. Watch for my next blog after the weekend. Enjoy this last week in February.

Yes, this has been an exciting week of curling. Can't wait for the Brier to start!! Safe travels to Bon Accord and home again.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of celebrating your monthly Anniversary!! You two are so cute!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels to Alberta.
Would love to see you sometime if you pass through Saskatoon. We'll likely miss you this trip tho as we head to Alberta at beginning of March, for a ski trip.
