| Happy 7th Birthday, Jamie! |
After a busy July, I am spending this long weekend at home with me, myself and I. It is a good time to catch up with yard work, some housework and now I see that the peaches from Crosby are ready to can! The apple trees are loaded but they won't be ready to pick until the peaches are taken care of.
The rest of the family are enjoying this holiday weekend away from home. Laurel's are at the Diekrager cottage near Fort Qu'appelle, Clare's are at her brother Joe's cabin near Prince Albert and Kirk's are back at the campground at Kenosee.
I enjoyed an overnight stay at Kirk's on Wednesday and helped Jamie celebrate her 7th birthday on Thursday. The above picture shows her sitting on the quilt that I sewed for her. The back is soft minkie fabric with characters from the Monsters Inc movie and she could name them all! The front has squares of denim (some from blue jeans of Howard's) alternated with squares of fabric depicting games like checkers, chess and dominos. Jamie loves to play board games and watches her favourite movies over and over so these two fabrics were perfect for her.
Jamie's birthday also marked the day that Todd, Kristy and Nora moved to their new home in Førde. They had to take four ferries to get there from Kristiansund. Here are Todd and Nora exploring their new city.
Sunday evening: I have to think back on this week to finish this blog. Last weekend Clare and four of his buddies from Weyburn took part in Crosby, ND's first Golfing and Curling three day event. They would play a game of golf, then curl a game. Their team ended up winning the event - by one point! When I asked Clare what the prize was he said "Free entry to next year's event." He was happy with that. This year they had 12 teams, were hoping for 16 so maybe it will grow to that or more next year.
Jodi took some of the kids golfing last Sunday as Kirk's kids were here for the weekend. Jamie and I went down later and she enjoyed time in the Crosby pool. By the time the golfing and lunch was over, it was too late for them to swim and they had to come home via Oungre as Torquay port closes at four our time.
When they got back around 7:30, we had a real work bee going on in the yard - Jodi and Abbey on the two ride on mowers, Clare and Carter moving machinery so the grass could be cut, Lindsay was using the grass trimmer, Jamie and I washed "Ruby". We got a lot done in an hour and a half. Thanks crew. Come back anytime!
On Tuesday I made a quick trip to Crosby for those good Elberta peaches and came home with 12 cases! No, they weren't all for me, but I have six to work on this week. I got started on them on Saturday so have 19 jars canned. (One jar cracked on the bottom and all the juice ran out. Another one didn't seal so it's in the fridge). Laurel plans to come on Tuesday so we'll do some more then and maybe sneak down to Crosby as they have sidewalk sales on Tuesday and Wednesday.
I spent an enjoyable Sunday afternoon at the Cranna farm helping Bob celebrate his 65th birthday with a BBQ and lots of visiting with friends and neighbours. Sheila, Debbie, Darlene and their families were home, along with three of Connie's children and Bob's sister Jenny and her husband. Instead of a cake, Bob chose "Sunday Sundaes" so we each designed our own sundae with various toppings and bowls of goodies such as Smarties, chocolate wafer crumbs, peanuts, cookie chunks and many more. Good idea, Bob! I left my iPhone at Kirk's last Thursday so didn't get any pictures. Thanks to Carolyn and family for the wonderful food you prepared, and especially to Jeremy for barbecuing all those good burgers!
Lots of celebrations were going on this long weekend. Marvin and Lyla Fonstad of Regina celebrated their 50th anniversary (a couple months early as Oct.17th is their wedding date), Randy and Wave Grimsrud, also of Regina, celebrated their 40th anniversary and Orland and Gail Korsberg of Frontier also celebrated their 50th. Congratulations to these three couples who have reached these milestones. Also, I want to say Happy 47th Anniversary to my brother Merv and his wife Jan who will celebrate that occasion on Tuesday, August 5.
With that, I will finish up this blog post and call it a day. I certainly did not spend this day by myself! It will be back to peace and quiet tomorrow!
