HARVEST BEGINS

The first stage of harvest at the Johnson farm began last week with swathing of canola and mustard.  Most of the crops look great but there is a concern about disease with all the humid weather we have had lately.  There was thick fog in the Regina area this morning, not a usual occurrence for August in SK.

We had an air show at the farm the other evening as the guys hired Ryan Hansen to spray the flax field with desiccant to speed up the ripening.  He flew right over the yard and Jodi was busy taking pictures.  Here's a good one.

Vacation Bible School is on this week at Trinity, Torquay.  Plans were to have Ashley, and perhaps Jamie, come and stay with me this week and go to VBS.  That all changed when I got a call from Regina saying I am booked for surgery on August 20 at 1:30 pm.  When I saw the specialist in May, I was told the waiting list was from 6 to 9 months so three months was not what I was expecting!  I didn't turn it down, even if it means I won't be able to help with harvest meals like I'm used to - no lifting over ten pounds for the next six weeks!  I have a prolapsed uterus and bladder so the first one will be removed and the second given an uplift with mesh.  I should be at Regina General Hospital for just a couple days if all goes well.

I am to be at the Regina General at 11:00 am on Wednesday and the surgery is scheduled for 1:30.  Laurel and Ashley came down on Sunday afternoon so Ashley is going to VBS for two days.  Abbey went along to be a helper.  I will go to Milestone with Laurel and Ashley on Tuesday and stay with them for a few days following the surgery.

Monday was Nora's first day at her new barnehage so here she is ready for action.

Sandra has been updating the trim on their house so here's a picture of her striking front door.  I need her services at my log house!

Last week I visited with Vivian Vinge while some of the grandkids spent time in the Weyburn pool.  When Laurel and Ashley came to get me they marvelled at the beautiful flowers in Vivian's back yard.  Laurel took a picture of Ashley and the huge geraniums on the deck.

Today we made a quick trip to Crosby for some groceries and picked up parcels in the mail at Ambrose.  Online shopping works well for me and Laurel makes use of it too with orders from Penneys and Macys.

There are three of us from Torquay having surgery at Regina General on Wednesday!  Darrell Skjonsby's back surgery was postponed from Monday, Theresa Stepp is having a kidney operation and then there's me.  Please keep us and the medical staff in your prayers.  Surgery is a new experience for me but I am in good hands - a competent Dr. Akinbiyi, and a loving Heavenly Father so I am trusting them to do what's best for me.  Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.  I will update when I am able or call Laurel at 436-4426 for more info.
